NoSQL for z/OS? Even EZer!

By Alexis Kapica posted Tue January 28, 2025 08:39 AM

For a more detailed introduction to EzNoSQL, check out the NoSQL for z/OS? So EZ! blog!

As we all know by now, EzNoSQL for z/OS provides a comprehensive set of APIs that allow applications the ability to store open standard JSON objects into VSAM Key Sequence Data Sets (KSDS) with RLS. You can now easily create and access JSON key:value databases directly on z/OS!

Additionally, EzNoSQL leverages the full data sharing capabilities of IBM’s Parallel Sysplex and z/OS. EzNoSQL on z/OS also inherits many of the desired functions provided by z/OS such as in-memory caching, system-managed storage, data encryption, and compression.

…If you didn’t know this, now you do! Maybe go back and check out that previous blog post we linked at the top…

EzNoSQL New Enhancements!

Previously, EzNoSQL provided C and Java based APIs, but now, for an announcement you all have been waiting for….

*Drum Roll*

The EzNoSQL/ VSAM RLS team has officially added Python to the list of available APIs!

Python offers a low-entry barrier for experienced and new developers alike due to the simplicity and intuitive syntax.

The new Python API supports all of the same capabilities provided by the four tiers of the existing APIs (Data Management, Connection Management, Document Management, and Document Retrieval).

We understand that Data is one of the most important assets to our users and providing flexible and fast access to data at scale is an invaluable advantage; Now with the Python APIs available, we know that our users, especially application developers, will find EzNoSQL is even EZer to use!

Getting started with EzNoSQL:

To get started with EzNoSQL, check out the EzNoSQL Content Solution page for more information!

The EzNoSQL Documentation has been updated to include Python and has more in depth information on the APIs!

We would love to hear your thoughts on EzNoSQL, leave a comment on this blog post, start a discussion on the DFSMS Community Page, or join the Mainframe Data Management LinkedIn group to discuss in the comments there!

If I were in the financial sector . . . I would use EzNoSQL to store and process tons of transactional data, including those tricky cross-border payment logs. Then, I would add some Python-powered machine learning models (think TensorFlow and Pandas) to dig through historical transaction data and look for irregularities. Finally, I would hook up AI algorithms to the EzNoSQL database to keep an eye on transactions as they happen in real time. Et voila! Global Fraud Detection System! What took y'all so long 😉. I might not be in the finance sector, but this seriously breaks my brain thinking about the possibilities.  Nice work, and thank you DFSMS!!!
