Today, November 22 2024 we have released the new IBM Z OMEGAMON AI for Storage 6.1 which provides a storage management and corrective action capability to help prevent storage-related outages. Administrators can maintain a healthy, efficient z/OS storage environment with automated actions based on rich storage monitoring capabilities for z/OS I/O subsystem performance, space management, and storage availability to help ensure optimal performance. Version 6.1 provides the following:
Integration with IBM Z OMEGAMON AI Insights:
IBM Z OMEGAMON AI Insights allows users to leverage ML capabilities to build custom models on storage data streamed through OMEGAMON Data Provider (ODP). These models unlock the ability to construct dashboards that can be used to proactively avoid issues and improve performance in the context of a user’s environment. Example use cases may include dataset growth, storage group growth, volume growth, and more.
The new RDM View By “Cluster Summary”:
In the RDM View By “Data Set” you could see the dataset’s information from the VTOC perspective. The new View By “Cluster Summary” shows dataset information from the Catalog perspective. For example, from the VTOC perspective, you might have a VSAM dataset with DATA and INDEX components – now it will be shown as a cluster name with summarized statistics from both DATA and INDEX components. Another use case for this new feature: you have lots of GDG datasets and you want to know storage usage for all of them – now you can see the GDG Base that has summarized statistics. And you can always drill down and see datasets associated with the cluster.
DASD Statistics in the RDM:
There are 3 new RDM Views for DASD Volumes: Volumes, Storage Groups and, User Groups. You could review both Space and performance metrics by choosing the proper “Column Set” or create your own set of attributes. The predefined Storage Toolkit actions are also added for both Volumes and Storage Groups.
Simplified RDM enablement:
In this release to enable the RDM you will need to define the value for the KS3_RDM_PORT parameter only in Configuration Manager or PARMGEN to tell which HTTP port the RDM-related server should start on.
Bookmarking Support in e3270UI:
All workspaces in e3270UI can now be bookmarked for quick and easy access to the workspaces. Saved bookmarks are reusable from any OMEGAMON product in the e3270UI. It can be accessed directly via a saved name or alias list.
Storage Toolkit Support in e3270UI:
The “Storage Toolkit” workspace is added to overview the Storage Toolkit action requests and results. Also, the “Create Batch” and “Create Command” dialogs were added similar to the TEP and E3270UI to be able to submit jobs. In addition, now the situations for the IBM Z OMEGAMON AI for Storage 6.1 support the Storage Toolkit actions from the e3270UI.
Unification of Storage Toolkit actions in situations:
Storage Toolkit feature supported the )DOT (Definition Of Table) and )ENDDOT syntax (End Definition of Table) only for actions submitted from the TEP. Now this syntax is supported in actions submitted from the situations: if your situation is triggered for several data rows – instead of submitting individual JCL for each row with the )DOT syntax we will combine them into one JCL. As a result, this will increase the processing time, reduce CPU time, and allow you to do various things like periodic data export.
Automatic collections start during TEMS start-up:
With the new parameter MINSTART=xx in the RKANPARU(KDFDINIT), you can define whether specific collections should be started before the original schedule. If the number of minutes defined in MINSTART is greater than the time before the next scheduled collection, the collection will be started during TEMS start-up with a small delay. The following collections are affected: the Dataset Attribute collection and the Tape Management collections (DFSMSrmm and CA1).
CPU Reduction and zIIP Offloading:
The CPU usage of the RDM “All Datasets” feature is reduced. In addition, it’s partially offloaded to zIIP.
The Dataset Attribute Incremental Collection functionality is partially offloaded to zIIP.
Some DASD Performance calculations are zIIP offloaded.
The RDM data transfer payload size was reduced: this should improve page loading speed, decrease the CPU usage for RDM users, and reduce network activity.
