Benefits and functionality of Tab in Apptio

Inquiring Minds is a monthly community series designed to support your learning every month. This month, we’re focusing on how to better organize your reports in Apptio using Tabs.

Tabs in Apptio are more than just a design feature—they’re a strategic tool for enhancing user experience, improving data clarity, and tailoring reports to diverse audiences. By using tabs, you can transform your reports from cluttered dashboards into intuitive, interactive insights.

Tabs break down reports into digestible sections, easily switch between views with a click—no page reload needed. You can drag and drop any report components into each tab for a tailored experience. Each tab can hold tables, charts, text boxes, or filters, and users can quickly toggle between them without reloading the page.

Step by Step: Creating, Managing and Deleting Tab

  • Open the report. In the report toolbar, navigate to Tabs and click on it to add.

  • Click on the + sign to add tabs and at the bottom, the box near to the “Edit Tab” is used to name the tabs we create

  • To switch between the tabs, either click on the names of the tabs at the top or use the left and right arrows at the bottom.

  • To delate a tab, click on the tab name and click on the delete (DEL) button at the bottom.

  • But please be careful! If you click the “X” icon with the components still in the tabs these will be deleted as well.

Tabs in Apptio help organize multiple datasets or perspectives into separate, easily accessible views, while Groups structure content within a single report for a more focused presentation. Tabs offer interactivity, allowing users to toggle between views, whereas Groups keep related items together in one space.
