This is an old article on understanding the internals of FileNet Content Platform Engine which was published in developerworks.com (around Jan 2015). But, since the site is no longer available, resurrecting the same doc - incase it helps others. 

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT an alternative for Official Documentation. This article was published for an old On-Premise version of FileNet Content Platform Engine (CPE) 5.2.x, way back in 2015. The intent of the article is to let users understand the internals of CPE configuration and explain step-by-step on how to configure CPE 5.2.x. Please note that the installation tools/steps might differ with the newer versions and the reader should ALWAYS refer to the official documentation if they are interested in later versions of CPE.
