  • 1.  When do we set up "Datacap Windows Service"?

    Posted Thu November 09, 2023 04:15 AM

I have Datacap Navigator (WAS and ICN) and TMWeb set up on a Datacap Server.

Do I still need to configure Datacap Windows Service and set it automatic start even if these UIs all reside on the same Datacap Server?

    Hi,

Datacap Windows Service provides the same functions as tmweb in IIS. So when you already have tmweb in the IIS deployed it is not necessary to also configure the Datacap Windows Service.

    Thank you Benjamin.

What if I want to configure only Datacap Navigator?  Does Datacap Navigator need Datacap Windows Service running if WAS and Datacap Server are on the same Windows Server? Or can we disable Datacap Windows Service?

Hi Datacap Navigator requires the datacap webservice. So you can run the webservice within Datacap Windows Service or within IIS.

    @dsakai

Datacap navigator is just a plugin that is added into ICN.  It required wTM services for communication.
Ben is correct.  wTM can be either hosted in IIS or run as a window services.   Normally in separate box and not directly install on the ICN server.
The different between wTM hosted in IIS vs as a Window Services is that in IIS you have more control such as logs collecting vs Window Services.
Ideally in heavy volume traffic environment, wTM services should be on it's own box.  I believed this is documented.

For development you can have a all in one system.  For production environment these systems need to be on it's own box.

    • WAS in it's own box.
    • ICN in it's own box
    • TM server in it's own box
    • wTM services in it's own box.

This is all in ibm datacap redbook.

    Thank you Blue Devil,

Right now we are hosting wTM in IIS.

I see the following entry in Windows Service List.

    "Datacap Windows Service" (wTMservice)

Can we disable it? If there is no use of it since we have hosted wTM in IIS, I'd like to disable it and let no one worry about it.

When you run wTM in IIS you can disable the "Datacap Windows Service" service.

    Agreed with Ben.

It's really up to the url you put configure in ICN for datacap navigator repository.

    Either IIS or window url.

    Window services

    http://IP:port/ServiceswTM.svc

    or

    IIS

    http://IP:port/service
