  • 1.  audit snapshot - Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy

    Posted Wed May 11, 2022 01:30 PM

    Dears, good morning!

I would like to ask a question if anyone can help me,

I have 5 computers with the BIGFIX client, they all appear in BIG FIX and ILMT, VCENTER has been configured and has the status OK, in the hardware inventory report the status of all computers is also OK.

But in the audit snapshot, one of the computers in the "comment" column has "Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy"

I would like to know what it could be because only 1 computer is like this and all statuses are OK

Hi, "Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy" on some systems are expected and this is due to certain period within this audit report those systems in question did not have VM Manager data collected.

Therefore, the data is not available for the audit report to present such information.

Actions to execute: - in the IBM PVU Subcapacity report, adjust the time range setting to narrow down which date that the VM Manager data became available for the system in question. By default, the time range setting is set to the first date when the ILMT tool is installed to today's date. During that period, for sure that the VM Manager data was not collected until you defined the VM Manager Tool. Please play around the Time Range setting in this report until you no longer see such error message and advise if it helps.

    R. George ( 1 ) , IBM good afternoon!

I performed the procedure informed, but even so, only for one VM it shows the observation "Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy".

The connection with VCENTER is OK, in BIGFIX the computers are also OK.

Is there anything else to validate? why only a VM brings the wrong information?

Hi, does the "Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy" disappear for the endpoint when you set the date range to the last day?

"Incomplete Virtualization Hierarchy" indicates that during the time range of the report data from a physical host on which the virtual machine exists is missing. As a result, default PVU counting is applied.

If ILMT is not able to collect the correct number of processors on an agent, it will use the highest number of processors available on the machine.

Note that in the PVU report drill down data is shown for the peak value time during selected period. It applies also to the virtualization hierarchy.

If VM Manager configuration in your ILMT was completed on... Example -12/22 or later then the hierarchy for 11/23 was left with these internal values (as ILMT cannot assume hierarchy was the same in the past).

PVU values reflect it. Incomplete topology data is removed on condition VM managers are configured within 24 hours since the first incomplete scan.

It means PVU report data will NOT "self-correct" and WILL show the "incomplete..." comment for reports - unless the report is displayed for a period AFTER configuring VM managers.

Basically, the topology will not be changed for the past, but it will be updated in current and future PVU Reports.
