Any ability to make Bulk updates to user/user-group permissions for Spaces?

  • 1.  Any ability to make Bulk updates to user/user-group permissions for Spaces?

Is there a way of making bulk updates to the user / user-group permissions for spaces, or to force permission inheritance across a number of spaces?  We have a large number of spaces and sub-spaces (>2,000).  Some use permission inheritance, although many spaces have unique permissions (frequently for individuals who have left the company).  Is there a way of making bulk changes to the permissions for multiple spaces concurrently, without having to individually navigate to and amend the permissions for each individual space? TIA, Gareth.

    Gareth,

There is no simple way to bulk update permissions. There are APIs to manage users and permissions and if you have API skills it would be possible to create a script that could find the users for each space and then update permissions.

Best practice is to use User Groups and to provide access via the groups rather than through individual userids. In many organizations the ability to create spaces is limited to Administrators or a Space Curation user(s).

If you would like to investigate the API option please respond here.

    Mark,

Thank you for your reply.  We're aware of advantages of using User Groups and role based access.  How user permissions have previously been managed complicates the situation, but even with user groups there are still a number of spaces requiring updates. iI looks like we will have to work through these manually and individually.

    regards,

    Gareth.
