New REST Services API’s for Content Manager OnDemand

For many years the Content Manager OnDemand Web Enablement Kit (ODWEK) has provided a robust set of Java APIs for Content Manager OnDemand custom application development. In Content Manager OnDemand (CMOD) v10.5, we've introduced new REST Services API’s to enable a fresh approach for implementing web-based applications, with an optimized, easy to use, high level programming interface to search for and retrieve documents from CMOD, as well as add documents to CMOD.

As many of you know already, the broad appeal of REST is largely due to ease of coding and efficiency. The ability to accomplish a lot with few API calls. REST is ideal for networked applications - due to its lightweight, stateless, high-performing HTTP/HTTPS client-server communications. Today REST is typically the most logical, efficient and widespread standard in the creation of APIs for Internet services.

The CMOD REST Services API’s are particularly suitable for external applications and where external user authentication/entitlement is managed outside of CMOD - at the mid-tier application layer.  For example, a customer relationship management (CRM) application, where customer facing statements need to be quickly retrieved and viewed from CMOD.

Our new REST Services API’s are included at no additional charge with CMOD for Multiplatforms and can also be used with earlier versions, CMOD v10.1 and v9.5. CMOD for z/OS and CMOD for i customers are also able to take advantage of REST Services API’s via their CMOD for Multiplatforms entitlements.
Need guidance on how to implement and use our new REST Services? Or perhaps need tips on performance considerations? Check out this whitepaper.

What about RESTify?
RESTify is an earlier IBM Services asset. Customers may continue to use RESTify for existing applications; however, the recommendation is to use our REST Services API’s for any new applications. IBM Services can provide additional guidance to customers who wish to convert their existing RESTify applications to the new REST Services API’s.  Contact your Expert Labs market services principal for a free 1/2 day assessment to review transition and implementation options: labs@us.ibm.com

A great addition to the one of the best content archiving solutions in the world.  Especially in our world of cloud.
