Reimagining Mobile Capture

By Hanson Shen posted Wed April 01, 2020 11:53 AM

If you’re like me, you’re probably more attached to your mobile phone than you’re willing to admit.

You’re not alone.

Smartphones are dominating our lives in this every growing digital age. We continue to be more reliant on them from daily weather updates to online shopping; however, our device utilization in business applications is still relatively immature.

Enterprises have barely scratched the surface for mobile adoption as is evident by the fact that only 36% of organizations4 have adopted any mobile solution for Enterprise Content Management (ECM). During this time when most of us are working remotely, viewing documents or presentations while sipping your morning coffee is just scratching the surface of what is possible with mobile enterprise content.

As enterprises look to increase productivity, deliver business insights and make informed decisions, the opportunity to empower your workforce to capture content, kickstart processes, and leverage AI to validate information all from a mobile phone is here!

We are pleased to offer IBM Automation Mobile Capture (AMC) as an easy-to-implement, scalable solution for your enterprise! AMC leverages the new advances in mobile operating software to bring intelligence and modern capture technology onto the device in three big ways:

1) On-device AI and Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

2) Auto document detection

3) Securely packaged and containerized for deployment via Kubernetes

Let’s explore how this technology will empower your day-to-day business:

  • On-device AI and OCR:

Documents submitted into a process commonly contain errors such as incorrect date formats or missing digits from a social security number. This causes delays in downstream processes because back-office workers must then notify the front-office to reach out to the source to correct the information. Longer processing of insurance claims, rebates, and refunds does not make for happy customers.

How does Automation Mobile Capture solve this problem? AMC uses AI and on-device OCR, so that information can be extracted and verified at the source. The person submitting the information can now validate on their device based on what your business has determined is mission-critical information for that process. By having the user validate their own data, you can reduce the churn delivering faster results.

  • Auto Document Detection:

Gone are the days when you would have to flatten out wrinkles or folds on a check or find enough light to use mobile check capture apps – only to be told to try again.

Using machine learning on the device, AMC is able to automatically deskew, crop, and straighten documents captured. It will also prompt the user to zoom in/out or to hold still to ensure the best quality photo, improving the user experience.

  • Securely packaged and containerized for deployment via Kubernetes:

Sharing sensitive data and personal information on a mobile device can cause many users to hesitate. However your users can rest assured that when using AMC, data and documents collected do not persist on the device. Once metadata and documents are securely sent to your content repository such as IBM FileNet Content Manager, documents and data are removed from the device.

Finally, the mobile application, SDK and the web-based scenario builder all communicate with your mobile capture servers in a dockerized container in a certified Kubernetes environment. It can be deployed in the environment of your choice: on prem or in containers.

Automation Mobile Capture has many potential use cases to propel your enterprise into a modern mobile enterprise content world:

Allow yourself and users to do more than get weather updates and shop on your mobile phone.  Empower them today with an easy to use mobile application that will not only improve their experience with your business, it will transform processes within your organization leading to better business outcomes.  You can get started now for free with IBM FileNet Content Manager or IBM Datacap licenses.
