Automation Exposé Goes Nuclear with Automation for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission

Ripping a page from the headlines, the vulnerable Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in the Ukraine has the world concerned and it underscores the importance of having strong regulations and oversight. In the United States, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) licenses and regulates the United States’ civilian use of nuclear reactors, fissionable materials, and nuclear waste in order to protect public safety and the environment. There are currently more than 100 nuclear power plants in the U.S. and 22,500 licenses for the use of nuclear materials, all of which are overseen by the NRC.

This month, Automation Exposé will reveal the behind-the-scenes story of building a Business Automation solution for the NRC. Join us Thursday, September 15, at 11 AM ET for a close look at this award-winning solution (the application won a Workflow Management Coalition (WfMC) Award for Excellence in Case Management) and we’ll have business automation specialists from Intellective take us deep into the story.

The nuclear power industry is highly regulated, with critical mandates that require the NRC to create, track, store and publish documents for public review, which include facility review reports, agency meeting minutes, and licensee correspondence. With no central repository and an aging system, the NRC presented a unique challenge, which IBM Business Partner Intellective helped them solve, using IBM Business Automation, including the IBM Content Services (FileNet) and the case management features of IBM BAW.

The solution built and deployed by Intellective has helped to:

  • Consolidated multiple legacy Content platforms and Libraries to a single IBM Content Library
  • Deployed a new secure process for evaluation and disclosure of data to the public
  • Automated dozens of Agency processes including Public Meetings, Commission Voting, Public Notifications, Correspondence tracking and Facility Change reviews, among many others
  • Used IBM Content Analytics and Enterprise for Discovery for Freedom of Information Act requests

I hope you’ll join us for this fascinating look at Business Automation technology contributing to the public good.
