    Hello.

Is there anyone out there who has made the journey and upgraded from Maximo 7.6 to MAS 8?

We wish to get in touch with someone who has done that upgrade.

    Thanks in regards.

We did one in the IBM Lab, as part of the four months enablement. I have made arround 600 pages of notes. To get the sense of what it entails. I suggest excellent webinar available form IBM it is just an hour long:

Hi Daniel, we have done 3 migrations so far for 3 different customers, in different industries and also including subsets of customizations. Before deploying the real deal on a production environment we always build or own development / PoC environment to test the migration (MAS8 setup is not a real big deal, however some MAS8 combinations of different industry solutions and /or add-ons can not being combined (e.g. Maximo IT is incompatible with MAS8 Manage HSE). Knowing this and if that is not the case, than a migration can be done without any major challenge.  Keep in mind that if you want to migrate a database from one to another (e.g. Oracle to DB2), than the advise is to do this already in your MX76xx environment before you are migrating to MAS8. Although it is seems possible with the right tools, it is not yet proven technology.

We are trying our hand to upgrade from Maximo 7.6 to MAS8 using Azure.

Kindly let me know how to manage the authorization and authentication aspect.

Also, if there are any documents for testing/test scripts after the upgrade is done, please share, it would be great help to us.

    Hi Aparna,

My team had setup SAML authentication using Azure Entra. As of documentation for setting up the above is available online.
Regarding Test Scripts, since we are an IBM Consultancy house we develop test scripts for each of our Clients as per their processes and setup. So there is no generic test scripts that we have made against the OOB Maximo. We also invest on building automation test script using tools like Selenium to ensure proper regression testing with every mock cutover since some of our Clients have extremely large and customized implementation with over 10,000 users on the system.

    Hi @Jan-Willem Steur, Witold, Ankit

We are trying to upgrade on-prem EAM to MAS on Azure cloud, it would be good if you can share your experience/learning on below topics

    1) How did you handled doclinks, (currently EAM is storing at file server) how did this be moved with Azure storage?

    2) Integration files (currently Maximo publish the files on File server) how this should work with Azure storage?

Do we need to setup NFS storage class to implement the same using Azure?

I am trying to find the most suitable approach for these EAM files on Azure.

    kindly suggest.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Drashti

    Hi Drashti,

if You are deploying on cloud then i would suggest using cloud provider services. Azure Blob storage unfortunately is not S3 compatible so You cannot use that. The second best option is to create a PVC using RWX Storage Class. For Azure that would be the Azure Files https://docs.openshift.com/container-platform/4.14/storage/persistent_storage/persistent-storage-azure-file.html. The PVC for doclinks and integration files can be specified directly in Manage configuration - the operator will deploy those PVC for You.

    Witold

Thanks @Witold Wierzchowski for your reply.

So, if we configure PVC, we can see those files inside Pod's terminal. How would we transfer our old attachments from windows File server to Pod's terminal?

And How would external system consume the files which Manage application publish? because we can see those files only inside Pod's terminal

    Please guide.

    Hi Drashti,

to transfer old files just use 'oc cp' command. Using that command You can easily transfer files from current location to the PVC.

If You need external system to consume files exported from Manage than You can mount the Azure File share from one side as PVC and as a file share from the other. I belive this article will be helpful as to how mount Azure File in Windows https://microsoft.github.io/AzureTipsAndTricks/blog/blog/tip354.html
