Certificate Overview 

Note: Only for clients on Apptio education system with an All Access Education Pass (AAEP). 

 

The Practitioner: Targetprocess Strategist certificate is designed for portfolio managers, program managers, and other project management or technology leaders that oversee enterprise-level planning and delivery using Targetprocess. 

The certificate is designed to build proficiency in using Targetprocess to manage and visualize work across portfolios, programs, and teams. The certificate covers how to apply strategic portfolio management principles to improve visibility, prioritize investments, and align delivery with strategic business objectives. 

Upon successful completion, learners will earn the “Practitioner: Targetprocess Strategist” certificate and badge. 

Duration and Structure 

  • Total course duration = 18.5 hours 

  • Self-paced learning = 10 hours 

  • Instructor-led training = 3 sessions, 8.5 hours 

  • Final assessment = 1 hour, 30 questions, 75% pass score 

Course Structure 

  1. Introduction and Overview [2 hours, 49 minutes] 
     

Review and test your understanding of prerequisite onboarding and use case training.  Learn about Targetprocess value and develop and share your goals. It includes: 

    • User onboarding review  

    • Use case training review 

    • Introduction to Targetprocess value 

  1. Strategic Planning Deep Dive [2 hours, 8 minutes] 
     

Develop in-depth knowledge of Targetprocess solutions for strategic planning and practice core strategic planning activities such as aligning work to strategy and tracking progress. It includes: 

    • Solutions deep dive 

    • Strategic planning practice activity 

 

  1. Portfolio Management Deep Dive [1 hour, 18 minutes] 
     
    Develop in-depth knowledge of Targetprocess solutions for portfolio management.  Learn how to plan work at the portfolio and agile release train levels and use Targetprocess capabilities to support and improve processes. It includes: 

    • People and plans 

    • Portfolio planning 

    • PI Planning and related features 

    • Risk management 

         

        1. Financial Management Deep Dive [1 hour, 28 minutes] 
           

        Learn about options for labor capitalization in Targetprocess and test your knowledge of the material covered in the three deep dive courses. It includes: 

          • Labor capitalization 

          • Solutions deep dive knowledge check 

         

        1. Portfolio Planning [3 hours] 
           

        This virtual instructor-led course focuses on portfolio planning in Targetprocess. Through hands-on activities, you will learn how to align work with strategy, manage hybrid portfolios, and use standard portfolio-level views to plan, prioritize, and schedule work. You will also practice applying customization and automation to adapt portfolio planning workflows to organizational needs. 

         

        1. PI Planning [2.5 hours] 
           

        This virtual instructor-led course introduces Planning Interval (PI) Planning in Targetprocess. Through hands-on activities, you will practice completing key PI Planning Event tasks, including capacity planning and scheduling, planning work during team breakouts, managing dependencies, and the review and approval of plans at the Agile Release Train level. You will also explore standard views, solutions, and configuration options used to support PI Planning before, during, and after the PI Planning Event. 

         

        1. Advanced Views and Reports [2 hours, 43 minutes] 
           

        Develop your skills in working with Targetprocess views and reports. Learn how to use filters, the Actions menu, and other options to effectively analyze data and how to build custom reports to support process improvements. It includes: 

          • Views 

          • Filters 

          • Report creation and management 

          • Report options and examples 

         

        1. Advanced Filters and Reports [3 hours] 
           

        This virtual instructor-led course teaches you how to build advanced filters and design effective reports and dashboards in Targetprocess. Through hands-on activities, you will practice using Targetprocess DSL syntax to build advanced filters and apply them across views and reports. You will learn about different filter types and how to explore account metadata to evaluate filter options. You will also design and optimize reports and dashboards by building visualizations, adding custom quick filters, and applying source data filtering strategies to support performance and usability. 

        1. Practitioner: Targetprocess Strategist Exam [1 hour] 
           

        Complete this 30-question exam to earn your Practitioner: Targetprocess Strategist certificate and badge.
