Using Model Reports

Wed May 17, 2017 10:32 AM

Understand what model reports can be used for and how to create them.

Updates:

  • As of 12.3.1, you can search within a tier by clicking on the filter button next to the tier name!

Hi @Debbie Hagen!

I'd like to see the modeled metric report from a Cost YTD view. Is there a way to do this or would it also cause the system to become expensive on performance? Any insight that you can provide is as always appreciated.

Thanks,

@Takilla Richards

Hi Zakria,

Yes model reports are quite expensive from a performance standpoint depending on how they are configured and what level of granularity they run at.  There is no specific guidance on now many you can or should have, because they can vary quite a bit.

That said my best advice would be to delete Model reports you don't need, only build them to the required level of granularity, and as you build each one, assess the impact to your calc time. If one drives your calc time way up, then you may want to configure a different configuration, less granularity, or eliminating some other model reports you no longer need.

Hopefully that answers your question.

Cheers,
Deb

By having multiple model reports, does it impact other reports or cost models?

Yes you can Zakria, just create another Model Report and give it a different name.

Ahh, thanks Diane, yes, I saw the update for 12.3.1.  Makes sense.  That would be great if you could add a screenshot.

Hi Debbie,

I think he's referring to searching within a tier, which I pointed out in the post today.  I'll update with a screenshot as soon as I can get one!

Thanks,

Diane

@Michael Moulsdale, would you like to add some information on how to search within the categories of the modelled table as you mentioned above?  Or perhaps write a separate blog post or record a video.  we can cross link them so people can find one from the other.

Great video, and now search within the categories of a modelled table. This can be found in the new features of 12.3.1: TBM Studio and Applications v12.3.1 Release Notes
