Share dashboards and reports with current view applied

Thu August 25, 2022 05:57 PM

The sharing of Cloudability reports and dashboards has been enhanced with the ability to share via a link that applies the current view of the sender. By clicking the link, the recipient will be taken to the specific report or dashboard and experience it with the same filtered view as the sender. Within the sharing pane the user has a new option, “Include Current View”, which generates the contextual link that can be copied and shared via messaging tools or email.

For example, a finance admin may be reviewing an org-wide summary dashboard with view “Team Alpha” applied so as to understand recent spending trends for that team. Noticing a spike in recent spending the admin may wish to share this information with a member of this team. In this case, the admin would assign the appropriate View, select share, click on the “Include Current View” box, and copy the generated URL. The URL could then be shared in a messaging app such as Slack and Teams, via corporate email, or included in a confluence page for later access.  After clicking on the link, if you navigate to a different section of Cloudability the app remembers the last view used thereby retaining the current behavior.

Note that sharing a dashboard or report with current view applied is only done via this contextual link. The recipient must already have access to the dashboard or report as it has previously been made available organization wide or shared directly (with view or edit permissions). Likewise, if the applied view is not accessible to the recipient, they will get a relevant error message.

Thank you Andrew for looking into this.

No worries @Dawn Kassube. This functionality is specific to Cloudability itself, with the filters implied through the ViewId, so there isn't really a connection to Cost Transparency.

Thank you Andrew for the quick response.  What I am attempting to do is in Cost Transparency and distributing reports to users via Power Automate.  I need to have the Users specific filters so they are taken directly to the filtered report in CT.  There is the FILTER command and I was wondering if that would work.
Thank you,

Hi @Dawn Kassube, an example of a dashboard with view applied will look like this:
https://app.apptio.com/cloudability#/dashboards/348921?viewId=98153

and a report could look like this:

https://app.apptio.com/cloudability#/reports/report?dimensions=date&end_date=23%3A59%3A59&limit=50&metrics=unblended_cost&order=desc&start_date=7+days+ago+at+00%3A00%3A00&title=Custom+Report&viewId=98153

The important aspect is the viewId parameter.

Could you possibly provide an example of what the URL looks like with the filtered value?

Thank you,
