Purchasing reserved instances (RIs) is one of the most effective ways to reduce your Azure bill. By committing to an ongoing level of usage for one- or three-years customers get the benefit of a significantly lower hourly rate.
With this update the Cloudability Reservation Portfolio now supports management of Azure SQL Database RIs. This feature allows customers to manage all of their active and retired reservations in one place, with users able to quickly understand their current commitment position. This includes summarizing overall performance in terms of total realized savings and utilization percentage. Users can also explore individual reservations to ascertain details such as expiry date, database type, daily savings, and daily utilization. By subscribing to expiry notifications and identifying reservations with low utilization, users can be proactive in maintaining a high commitment coverage and thereby improve the economics of running cloud.
To start using the reservation portfolio for Azure SQL Databases today ensure you have configured the billing account reader role following the instructions here.
