As a piece of our dual release for BI, available by default for ApptioOne - Cost data sources is the option to include "Other" values in a visualization - this is the second of our dual release to begin April. Let's discuss the and how you can toggle it on and off for increased customization during report creation.
Include Other Values" option when filtering results
With this release, the Include Other Values option is now turned on by default. When filtering results, users have the option to include "Other" values when choosing to include or filter multiple results in a visualization. For context, "Other" means a returned value from data sources that represents the total value subtracted by shown value. Within a visualization, the default-toggled "Show "Other" Values allows you to add in Other values to your displayed data. Previously, you had to select Include "Other" Values from the Options Menu in a visualization if you would like to specify the number of results that you want to display in your visualization, and then choose to group the remaining data into the Other group.
This toggle allows you to view and analyze your most important data directly within the report without having to go back into the data, while not losing sight of the overall picture for a specified date range. For users, this functionality overall can helps to group additional metrics into one category rather than, for example, having a single Donut or Pie chart filled with dozens of pieces broken up into indiscernible pieces. The goal of this release is to continue to add customization to your report visualizations and make it easier to display the most essential data to end users, while adding a cleaner look and feel to your display.
