Understanding what categories of vendor spend (termed as "Cost Drivers") is important to have a better view on where to find savings in the future, thereby, helping us to better manage costs. This is a Case study emphasizing the need of an Apptio report that focuses the clients attention on the cost drivers impacting their Vendor spend.
The cost driver data in Clarity reports cannot be integrated into a reporting process nor can the data be brought into a visualization graph that easily conveys the drivers and cost over a span of time. Building a report with such functionalities would take approx. 6 months of development work and testing, resulting in prolonged delay in getting information to our clients and senior management. We worked on getting the cost driver data from our vendor cost management system into Apptio and including in Vendor Use Case (VUC) reporting within 5 business days. This allowed clients to see the cost driver and spend by vendor to note the changes over time. This accelerated delivering valuable information to our clients for decision making.
