As the TBMA in a company that is using Apptio recently I faced several challenges at the same time: learn the tool and our TBM model state. Understanding  the business requirements and being able to represent them in the model has been a continuous learning journey.

There was no official TBMO but the team that was put together has been able to work and continues to work on the main objectives. 





Calculation times reduction was a key accomplishment  for us.  The users require  reports visibility the earliest as possible on a daily basis. We reduced this time in a 50%  along the model review process.

Correcting formulas or using them in a more efficient way helped.  Replacing LookupEx formula whenever was possible by a Lookup formula instead creating an additional field to use as identifier to get a unique value in return.   

Re-evaluating allocation rules and tables relationships to represent as close as possible the business requirements.

We created  new reports visible to all our users to validate data accuracy.  They can easily view information like IT towers allocation %, Service Offering descriptions, etc and detect inconsistencies that they could report to us to get them corrected.

As we populated the model with accurate data, we reduced fallouts thru not only the Financial but all the  model layers. 

Above all this, the most important goal was to win our Stakeholders trust in the data that Apptio reports are providing.

Improving the model is a never end process, the model will never be perfect but always be better than how it was.  TBM model is in a constant evolution.
