How to track Budget and Forecast for IBM Projects in Cloudability

By Alok Jain posted Thu December 12, 2024 10:55 PM

Here is the step by step guide to create and track Budgets and Forecasts specific to IBM Cloud Projects:

Note: IBM Cloud Projects are surfaced as tags with prefix ‘service_tag’ in Cloudability.

Step 1: Define your Tags & Labels Dimension

When you create or edit Tag Dimension, you can select the Project Tags prefixed with service_tag in your definition of Tag Dimension:

Step 2:  Validate in the Report that you’re getting value (and what values) for Project ID. You can use these values to create different Views for each project.

Note: After you created your Tag Dimension, you’ll need to wait for ~24 hours to get the data reprocessed (alternatively ask your CSM to run a one-off reprocess request).

Step 3: Create your Views based on these Tag Dimensions. Use the filter for your project tag Dimension value. For example, I have two projects A and B, I’ll be creating two views, one of each Project A and Project B.

Following two Views are created:

Step 4: Create Budget for these views: ‘Project A View’ and ‘Project B View’. Note: Budgets are always linked to Views.

Both budgets are created:

Step 5: Go to Forecast: Make sure to pick the View from top:

Change the View in Top View dropdown to ‘Project A View’ and Apply the budget ‘Project A Budget’ to view the forecast of Project A:

Change the View in Top View dropdown to ‘Project B View’ and Apply the budget ‘Project B Budget’ to view the forecast of Project B:
