Turbonomic now supports enabling vCPU and vMEM hot add configurations during a Virtual Machine resize action. After these configurations are enabled, resize actions can be performed without the need to power off the VM.
Understanding the Hot Add Feature in Virtualization
vCPU and vMem Hot Add are features in virtualized environments, that allow you to add CPU and memory resources to a virtual machine while it is running, without the need to power it off or restart it.This is useful when a VM needs additional processing power or memory, allowing you to scale resources without disrupting its operations. The VM must be configured to support hot add before you can add hot memory or CPUs , and not all VM operating systems may support this feature.
Enabling vCPU / vMEM Hot Adds
Turbonomic users can activate the hot add configuration change feature by enabling the two settings "Enable vCPU hot add" and "Enable vMEM hot add" listed below in the Action Constraints section of the Virtual Machine automation policies. The settings are disabled by default.
