    Hi Nick,

    It would be helpful if you would share some more information about this error.  Does it happen when you are running a specific procedure?

    yes when running a big job that takes a bit of time e.g. logistic regression

    1. Start the program.
    2. File  > New > Syntax.
    3. Type in SHOW VERSION.
    4. Run that.
    5. Copy the table that SPSS produces from that syntax and paste it into a reply to this note, please.

    Hi, Nick;

    I've spent considerable time checking around but have come up empty. We are not aware of any particular issue that could be causing this in v26 with fixpack 1 installed.

    Version 27, now on 27.0.1, does include fixes for known processor terminations in v27 but this is a different issue most likely, since those problems were due to changes in the compiler(s).

    Still, we would like to narrow down and pinpoint the cause of this if we possibly can. Is there a specific syntax that reliably shows the problem, and if so, could you please share it?

    I watched it running on activity monitor to the point at which it crashed and spssengine disappeared - a crash report was generated below:

    Hi again Nick,
    If spssengine crashed, likely there is a crash log in ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/.  It would have a name something like spssengine_date_yourname.crash.  If you see one or more of those, upload the latest one and I can take a look and see if I can figure out what is causing the crash.

    Hi Thanks for looking into this - unfortunately I can't see a crash report for SPSS engine.
    I wonder if I could check with you exactly which patches I need for SPSS 26 and Catalina (10.15.7) and in which order.

    Many thanks

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    I reviewed the interim fixes and there are none remotely related to this issue, so it looks like you have found a new issue.  If you can give us the syntax you use and some data that replicates the problem, we can look into it.

    Hi Louis

    The job is a big one, logistic regression with c9m observations - but it runs perfectly well on my old iMac (Sierra) and SPSS 25 - so there must be an issue with SPSS 26 and Catalina ? My machine is iMac Pro 3.2 8-core 128GB Memory

    @Nick Wilson
    Hi Nick, if you have installed SPSS 26 Fixpack 1 you may also try it out to install interim fix 26.0-IM-S26STATC-MAC-FP001-IF003 from IBM Fixcentral.
    You will find the direct link to the IF on below article on section  UPDATE 11/13/2020:
    "After you install IBM SPSS Statistics 26 Fix Pack 1 on macOS, it is recommended that you apply interim fix 26.0-IM-S26STATC-MAC-FP001-IF003. This interim fix improves application stability issues reported on macOS. Download it here."
    It is at least worth a try when you cannot provide replication data, thanks

    I'll try your suggestion but I think I have these patches - I'm thinking of upgrading to Big Sur - are there issues running SPSS 26 on this platform ?

    thanks

    @Nick Wilson

    I would first try the interim Fix 003 before you uninstall SPSS 26 on Catalina. If you upgrade to Big Sur you can use SPSS 26 but should install 26 FP2. In general, it is recommended to upgrade to SPSS version 27.01 release when you upgrade to BigSur. " Anyone looking to upgrade their macOS to Big Sur is highly encouraged to upgrade to the latest version of SPSS Statistics also", which is 27.0.1 release

    Thanks I completely uninstalled and then reinstalled with patches as suggested but still get the same problem - Most routines run OK with the big data file so the issue might be narrowed down to the logistic regression routine ?

    If you can share the syntax you used, that would be very helpful.

    If the data are shareable, they are also greatly appreciated. If they aren't, can you give us an idea of their structure: # cases, # variables, mixture of strings and numerics, etc. Then I can create a dataset and try it.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for this. I've had this problem for some time and was unable to find an answer for it. The problem was highly intermittent so won't know for awhile (probably) if it works for me but I'm hopeful!
