Please exit the SPSS program.
Open a console window, and in it, run this command:
"/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS/stats"
That will re-open SPSS. Now, try to open a syntax window:
File > New > Syntax
or
Go out to Finder, find a syntax file, and drag it into the SPSS program. It should open.
If either of these fails, please go back out to the console window and see if SPSS printed anything to it. If so, copy and paste it, and send it to me at marcantr@us.ibm.com.
Thanks.

Hi Rick,
I have tried your shell, and reinstalled from SPSS package saved on desktop. Also I have updated OS to Ventura.
However, the problem still there. I cannot open a syntax window and missing many analysis tabs.
Do you have any another idea?

In a terminal window, run this:
"/Applications/IBM SPSS Statistics/SPSS Statistics.app/Contents/MacOS/stats"
When SPSS starts, attempt to open a new syntax window by selecting File > New > Syntax
and see what happens in the terminal window.

Hi Rick, tried a full reinstall with firewalls disabled but the problem still exists. I have noticed that at the bottom of the SPSS window there is a red floppy disk which when hovered over it states 'Auto-Recovery disabled unable to write to Auto-Recover file location'. Not sure if that has any correlation.

Yes. I accidentally sent you my private script rather than my public one. Believe me when I tell you that your machine is now about as clean as it can get from v29 issues.
Please re-install.
If this doesn't fix it, then these things were never the problem.

Hi Rick, I do. Should I go ahead with the re-installation?

Oh, NO.
Do you have the installation package to re-install?

Hi Rick, I ran the script but it seems like the SPSS software has been uninstalled from the machine. I restarted the machine and this is still the case.
Best regards,
James

Hi. Just save that script to someplace obvious, like your Desktop. Open it in a text editor so you can put your userid in there. If you don't know what that is, in the terminal window type whoami. The string that is returned is your userid; copy and paste that into the script in the obvious place.
Back at the command prompt, type sudo -sh <path/script_name>
The Mac will ask for your password; that is the password you use to log into the machine.
The script will do its thing. After that it will exit and the prompt will be back. You should be able to start SPSS as normal at this point; hopefully, it will behave itself from now on.

Hi Rick,
Thank you so much for the quick response. Can you provide a little more detail on how to proceed with the shell file attached. Can you give me a little pointer as to how I apply all the contents successfully?
Thanks,
James

Hi there,
I have been having trouble with seeing the options below regression under the Analyze toolbar option on my mac.
After reinstalling, reactivating the license, deleting the lservrc file it does not look like this is an issue with licensing. When troubleshooting it appears the lock code, lservrc contents were all correct. Deleting the plist and restarting was also unsuccessful.
After reading the below on here I wondered if this was something similar.
My Mac with SPSS v28 crosstabs and frequency option not showing in my descriptive analysis menu
When trying to run a syntax to see if the missing commands still work it appears the syntax file does not open at all.
Will trying Rick's shell script work in this situation?
Thanks.
