Briefly, AI developed algorithms are almost able to create new drugs using supercomputer simulations. We have AI algorithms that can detect the onset of certain diseases and diagnose patients as a second opinion.

AI has a very huge impact on the healthcare sector.

Read the story of one of my friends, Tanmay Bakshi. He actually developed some stuffs for AI and he is currently working on making things easier for healthcare experts.

    Hi,

within AI let 's not forget the optimization part which was quite useful for many use cases

I've seen use cases where AI and Machine Learning can make recommendations to health providers on what types of treatments they can receive before intervention is necessary, in specific use cases. A tool was developed to scan parameters of a patient's medical history and family history to predict whether certain tests are needed to screen for diseases. I can't recall the specific disease, but it had a high degree of accuracy, about <=80%.

We are probably still at the beginning of this. There are consumer-level apps for skin research or heart research, for example. Such as Fibricheck and Skinvision. (By the way recommended apps.)

There are many benefits  of A.I.  which including improving the outcome of patient visits thru more accurate and speed of a diagnosis,  the treatment selected, lab test are more efficient.  There are cost savings due to many task are automated, that once were a manual task , items like data entry, electronic health records that are available in minutes vs hours or days.  Many types of request can be fulfilled very quickly. Others include administrative  efficient. AI is not replacing a physician, A.I. is a tool . We are at the beginning of a new era in medicine and treatment of diseases. Proof  of Quantum Computing by IBM  is happening at Cleveland Clinic along with others.

There are challenges and risk that include security along with regulatory challenges, both of which we also had before A.I

AI is NOT going to revolutionize the health care industry.  Nothing is.  Healthcare is a HIGH-RISK, MISSION CRITICAL environment, that involves LOSS of LIFE.  Because of this, testing for medical treatments, medical devices, and medical systems is robust, systems must be deterministic, and fail-safe systems need to be in place.  With these constraints, ANY change to the industry is going to be measured, and EVOLUTIONARY (not revolutionary).

AI (and automation in general) can provide great benefits in this space, but they all need to be either: 1) fully deterministic (which AI is NOT), or 2) supervised with human intelligence in the loop.

I know that we're in the middle of a giant AI hype cycle, and people are making money off of the hype.  I'm not anti-AI, or afraid of an AGI taking over the world.  It's just that the hype has gotten out of hand.

AI is currently having an impact here.  When you look at the REAL and ACTUAL use cases where AI provides value today, it is in ways that are quite impactful, that many of us take for granted.  Speech services allow assistants and health workers to more easily record and review patient information while working with the patient.  That is a huge benefit - and one you can see used in a medical setting today.  Some AI systems will review images - as a sort of built in "second opinion" (but never just on their own).  AI systems are used to detect trends in disease spread and frequency - useful for detecting and reacting to outbreaks of disease.  These are all powerful impacts - you just need to strip away the hype and appreciate the actual impacts that you see today.
