Good and happy day to everyone,
Every April 14 it's a special day for science since this date is assigned as World Quantum Day, a nice initiative to encourage and promote the public understanding of the quantum field and this disruptive technology. Alluding to celebrating one of the most intriguing things in human knowledge, there are two wonderful quotes that I want to share.
'If quantum mechanics hasn't profoundly shocked you, you haven't understood it yet.' - Niels Bohr
'If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics.' - Richard P. Feynman
I consider these quotes are very wise in my opinion, because you can't find any explanation of what are happen inside these states until measured, we cannot know where was the particle or what was the path before the collapse, uncertainty principle case. For me, I find this very interesting and I feel myself as beginner to understand mostly that topic, nevertheless, that's my motivation, being curious, exploring and sharing thoughts that can clear my doubts, asking questions, and discussing with others to have great conversations towards this area. Then, is great to know that more than 65 countries, support this initiative to contribute the awareness of this field.
IBM did an event called The IBM Quantum 2022 Virtual Open House which highlighted that quantum computing is to stay, having a lot of potential to solve problems that in classical way can be very difficult to process even with supercomputers, the moderators in this event showed many aspects that I feel is important to know or take in consideration, I share here a set of images for educational purpose with IBM Quantum/ 2021 IBM corporation copyright.
Here we can appreciate the evolutions and improvements over the years, identifying that the world is preparing the steps to take the quantum computing advantage, focusing on education and technical skill build, to promote and engage technical teams in learning experiences.
Another key aspect of the event was the definition of Quantum-Readiness, which is a continuously evolving state that depends on your general approach, innovation, as well as new talent and skills, and overall digital maturity, the Q-Readiness includes the adoption of enabling technologies such as automation, AI, and hybrid multi-cloud to analyze, experiment and iterate with evolving computing capabilities.
The participation of enterprises and organizations shows us the high expectation and confidence volume that this field will be incredibly applicative and discover new things about how the problems can handle with this technology, then Developing the skills from now is a good step to go together this transformation that will have high impact in the computing world performance.
Therefore, as we can see, the quantum field is a wonderful place to dive into curiosity, open mindset, and explorer spirit, with a great community and a great humanity step in the new technologies. Finally but not less important, to measure the progress they exist three metrics to recognize the quantum computing performance, which are:
- Scalability: The numbers of qubits which indicates the amount of information we can encode in the quantum system.
- Quality: The quantum volume which indicates quality of circuits and how faithfully circuits are implemented in hardware.
- Speed: CLOPS (Circuit Layer Operation Per Second) which indicates how many circuits can run on hardware in a given time.
Thanks for the attention, be comfortable to reply or comment what do you think about the quantum field, have you participated in any quantum event and how did you feel?
Kind regards, and my best.
