This email landed in my inbox this morning, wanted to share with all of you here:

Hi Data Do-Gooders!

We’re looking for dedicated volunteers to lead and work on two exciting volunteer opportunities: our DataCorps® projects and our Scoping Squad! If you’re receiving this email, it’s either because (1) we already know of your interest in supporting Data Science and AI for Good from your past DataKind work, (2) you expressed interest in hearing about upcoming volunteer opportunities, or (3) you know of someone who may be interested!

DataCorps Projects:

DataKind is looking for approximately 40 volunteer data scientists, machine learning enthusiasts, coders, developers, and project managers to work with us virtually on our newest DataCorps projects. To set projects up for success, our DataCorps engagements last between 6-9 months with a commitment of 5-10 hours a week of your time. Our partners for these upcoming projects are working on problems such as increasing financial inclusion for traditionally marginalized populations, encouraging graduation rates across the U.S., improving access to social services at the community level, and empowering informal workers. As a team, you’ll be working alongside partner organizations and community members to help solve these pressing problems.

Scoping Squad:

If you're looking to lend your expertise in data science project scoping and consulting to support awesome organizations in creating positive change, we need your help! DataKind is looking for 20 new members to join our 2022 Scoping Squad cohort: a team of data scientists, data consultants, project managers, and social sector experts who will be on the frontlines of designing impactful projects with our partner organizations. The Scoping Squad requires a commitment of typically 10-20 hours per month for one calendar year from January through December 2021. You’ll help DataKind identify impactful projects, scope and consult with organizations, and - if they're a fit - conduct initial exploratory analyses to inform project scope and design. You can also learn more about the Scoping Squad by attending the "Ask Me Anything" webinar on Thursday, October 28, 2021 from 6-7pm ET.

Interested in being considered for one of these volunteer roles? Know someone that would be a great fit? Share this email to help us spread the word!

Finally, as we aim to build diverse teams and foster an inclusive environment, we encourage women, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), LGBTQ+, and those who identify with groups who have been historically excluded from data science and tech to apply.

Applications close Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 11:59pm ET.

Hope to change the world with you soon!

Great org, definitely check them out!

PS: Following the recent DataDive, we are working with DataKind on another event this year, to take place somewhere in Asia (though probably still happening remotely). Stay tuned for details!
