See You in Person in 2020!

Over the course of 2019, the IBM Data Science Community has more than tripled in size to over 3,500 members from all around the world. Welcome, everyone. It’s great to have you!

A lot of what we offer – articles and tutorials, online courses, our groups and discussion forums etc. – happens online: you can enjoy these benefits remotely, no matter where you’re based. At the same time, we know just how valuable (and fun) it can be to meet and connect in person every once in a while, whether at conferences, meetups, workshops, or hackathons.

While IBM has been at the forefront of artificial intelligence and related topics for many decades, our data science community program – aimed at enabling data scientists and those aspiring to enter this field – is still fairly new. This year, we got to attend and support a handful of in-person events related to our mission, and we greatly enjoyed every single one of them. A few highlights:

  • April: SF Python Project Night
  • May: AI Data Science Summit (Jerusalem, Israel)
  • August: PyBay (San Francisco, CA)
  • October: PyCon/PyData Berlin
  • November: Data Council New York City
  • December: PyData Los Angeles
As we head into 2020, we plan do more. We’re currently looking at about a dozen or so major tech hubs around the world (the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, London, Amsterdam, and Singapore, among others) where we’d like to support the local data science meetup scene on a regular basis by providing speakers and – to the extent possible – sponsorships or other resources. In addition, we’ll be heading to a half a dozen or so more cities as sponsors of some of the key data science and AI conferences.

Stay tuned as more details become available.

We’re busy finalizing the first round of events for early next year, including a few outside the United States (fingers crossed). Here are a couple that have made it onto the calendar so far:

Check back next Friday for more meetup and event news.

Are you planning on attending any conferences next year? What are your favorite local data science meetups? Let us know in the comments, and maybe we’ll find a way to come to a place near you. Hope to meet you there!

You guys have done a great job the the community so far. I've learned so much and I keep learning and learning as I dive deeper and deeper into into this complexity of quantum, ai, etc.

Thank you IBM and IBMers!
