Advanced Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality in Neurosurgery, Microsurgery and Surgical Training

     Our Augmented Education Team ( Assist. Prof. Dr. Moneer K. Faraj, Assist ( Consultant Neurosurgeon). Assist. Prof. Saifuldeen A. Mohammed ( Consultant Engineer), and Assistant  Chief Engineer ( Consultant Engineer)- University of Baghdad in cooperation with the Arab Board for Health Specializations held a workshop entitled ((Advanced Artificial Intelligence AI and Augmented Reality AR in Neurosurgery, Microsurgery and Surgical Training)), the workshop included 3 presentations and demo9bnstrations, as follows:

1- The first presentation ((Surgical training powered by AI and AR)),In the first presentation,  Mr. Saifuldeen A. Mohammad, Assistant Professor in College of Engineering - University of Baghdad had concentrated on the practical aspects of surgical training using artificial intelligence and augmented reality in teaching anatomy in 3 dimensions through augmented reality glasses, holograms of body simulators, virtual operating rooms, virtual intensive care rooms, and the assessment of students in Medicine Collages and the trainee doctors, with practical examples on how to use it and supported by video files for the explanation on this topic.

2- In the second presentation  ((Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality in Neurosurgery and Microsurgery)), Mr. Abdullah  A. Jassim,Assistant Chief Engineer and Head of the Artificial Intelligence Unit in Computer Center - University of Baghdad  , had reviewed the augmented reality systems, and real-time image processing of MRI devices, with the possibility of performing surgical navigation (a positioning system inside the human body) in the brain and spinal cord with an accuracy of less than 1 millimeter in surgery, and reviewing the use of these systems in the surgical planning of the surgical operation, with the possibility of distributing images to members of the surgical team in addition to precise and rapid control of the MRI image, and accessing the health and medical records EHR / EMR and radiological image archiving communication systems PACS to store, transmit, retrieve and process the data from PET-SCAN, CT-SCAN, MRI, X-Ray devices, in addition to the medical data transmission network for radiosurgery devices Radio Surgery, operating rooms,  and intensive care rooms, and integrating them with IBM and RedHat  Enterprise Infrastructure and the Healthcare Systems from other companies, including  the Performance Appraisal for doctors and hospitals according to the Key Performance Indicators KPI specified within international standards.

3- In the third presentation ((Proposal for a Surgical Training Center to Localize Expertise in Neurosurgery and Microsurgery)),  Assistant Professor Dr. Moneer K. Faraj, Head of the Curricula and Training Committee of the Arab Board for Neurosurgery, a Teacher in College of Medicine - University of Baghdad, He had  had concentrated on the importance of surgical training to localize advanced expertise in all types of surgery in Iraq by providing advanced training opportunities.

Finally, our Augmented Education Team recommends the strategies, policies and requirement of the infrastructure of the training center, surgical training devices  are supported by the Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence, which is the first of its kind of detailed design with taking into consideration the examinations and curricula for surgical training depends on the Body Simulators, and then the training will use real cadavers for surgical training purposes, The IBM Watsonx for Performance Appraisal based on Key Performance Indicators KPI,  and Nvidia  Surgical Data Science Collective (SDSC) is transforming global surgery through AI-driven video analysis, helping to close the gaps in surgical training and practice. driven  Training Management.

   Our Augmented Education Team in University of Baghdad is a pioneer in serving the community and state institutions through workshops, Panel Discussions, Seminars and specialized conferences to develop the scientific process in Iraq.
