Have you ever asked yourself, "How does our TBM program stack up to those of other companies?" Or, simply, "How does our program rate in regards to best practices?" We can now begin to help you and others answer those questions.
A few weeks ago, the TBM Council launched the
State of TBM 2021 survey. The survey, along with other primary and secondary research, will reveal the current state of TBM practices, organizational designs, skillsets and staffing, data and reporting, as well as benefits achieved.
We invite and encourage all Apptio customers to participate in this important research. In return for doing so, you will receive the following:
- A customized benchmarking report at the completion of the project in the Fall of 2021. This report will compare your responses to averages and ranges for industry, size and geography. The report will also share what our research shows are best practices for TBM and, more generally, value creation.
- Invitation to a participants-only virtual meeting to discuss the findings. Here, Todd Tucker, VP of Standards, Education & Research for the TBM Council, will present the findings and discuss key observations from interviews and other primary and secondary research performed.
- Participants holding or earning their Certified TBM Executive credential will receive credit for 2 hours of continuing professional education for the program.
- Finally, the TBM Council will donate $25 for each complete survey response to Girls Who Code, whose mission is to equip girls around the globe with the computing skills to be change agents in their communities.
What types of facts will you learn by participating? Consider these comparisons to industry peers:
- TBM priorities (goals) and the goals accomplished by the TBM office/practice
- Location and size of TBM office/practice, as well as how you’ve sourced and trained your team members
- Maturity of TBM office/practice vs. length of time it has been in place
- Status of your TBM governance group and executive sponsorship/direction
- Quality of reporting in place for different roles (e.g., ITFM, procurement, resource owners, service owners, architects, etc.)
- Use of the standard taxonomy and what types of costs are included and measured
- How you set funding levels for run-the-business and change-the-business programs
To complete the survey, you should have a good understanding of your department's TBM practices, your IT/tech department's budget, and other high-level facts about your organization. If you feel someone else on your team should take the survey, please forward this invitation to them.
The data you submit will be used strictly for research purposes by the TBM Council. Only survey participants will receive their benchmark results, and no individually identifiable information will be shared with others. Of course, we will share the summarized results of the research with the TBM Council community and openly with the public as well. We are also using the survey results to influence the TBM Conference agenda, our education programs, and other programs.
The survey comprises 51 questions (or less, depending on some answers), but most questions are very easy and quick to answer. You may save and resume your survey at any time.
