Bio

Skyla Loomis is Director of IMS and z/TPF at IBM. She currently leads the development of IMS & z/TPF, which are some of the most secure, highest performing and lowest cost database management and transaction processing systems in the world. They are the database and transaction processing platform of choice for high performance, mission critical applications at fortune 500 companies across the banking, finance, travel, and insurance industries to name a few. Additionally, she is leading the z/OS synergy strategy with Red Hat which includes how z/OS works with OpenShift and Ansible.

She has been with IBM 18 years and has spent most of her career delivering products around data and how to get value out of data. She's held a variety of development leadership roles at IBM across cloud, mobile, business analytics, warehousing, NoSQL, and database tooling. Prior to this role, she led the engineering team for a 2014 acquisition, Cloudant, which was a fully managed, NoSQL JSON document store database than ran in the cloud, managing over 400TB of client data in 40+ data centers around the world. Passionate about agile development practices, she’s lead agile transformation journeys with each team she’s led since 2008.

When not working, you can find her working in her garden, cooking and BBQing, playing volleyball, running, and practicing yoga.
