Upskill, Reskill, New Skill: IBM Z Xplore Goes Live!

The new IBM Z Xplore learning experience is live and ready for students, educators, life-long learners, and anyone looking to skill up and jumpstart their IBM Z learning journey. This experience is available at no charge globally to anyone interested in developing valuable, in demand IBM Z enterprise computing skills while earning industry-recognized digital badges

IBM Z, IBM® z/OS® operating system and applications are the backbone of much of the world’s critical businesses and government systems. It supports two-thirds of fortune 100 companies, 45 of the world’s top 50 banks, 4 of the top 5 airlines, 7 of the top 10 global retailers, and 8 of the top 10 insurers – helping to execute the many transactions that constitute our daily lives. Tremendous employment and growth opportunities exist on IBM Z and employers around the globe are hiring and in need of these critical skills.

IBM Z Xplore is a new, comprehensive learning experience to introduce learners to IBM Z and enterprise computing. The experience includes a gaming app, a learning platform with access to an IBM Z for hands-on challenges, and a student contest:

Gaming App
For learners new to computer science, we are teaming with Code.org to bring IBM Hour of Z to life as a gaming app. IBM Hour of Z takes a look at the digital underworld behind mobile applications and is a great entry point to learn about introductory computing concepts and IBM Z in a fun, interactive, and information packed game.

Learners can continue on their skills journey with the IBM Z Xplore learning platform. It will take the learners through educational paths and coding challenges that start with fundamentals on data and introduce coding languages such as Python and job control language (JCL). With each completed challenge, they earn points to gain a position on the leaderboard and access to rewards. Fresh content is added throughout the year to keep learners on their toes and coming back for more. Once the Fundamentals level has been completed, the following Concepts level builds on the knowledge gained in the previous level. The Concepts level includes a multitude of systems that work together to create an operational system, as well as the security that protects the data and files, and how IBM Z provides continuous availability. Learners will continue to unlock advanced challenges and solve real world examples in self-guided paths based on their areas of interest. Checkout our IBM Z Xplore Learning Platform walk-through and get started.

IBM will sponsor a student contest hosted and run by HackerEarth, an industry leader in hackathons with a community of over 6 million developers and 450 universities. The month-long competition will kick off in mid-October and will be powered by the IBM Z Xplore learning platform integrating core challenges to help students complete the contest. To be eligible, participants must be 18 years or older and a student at an accredited school.
