  • 1.  New Map Tool - WORelatedRecordsTool

    Posted Tue March 15, 2022 10:08 PM

As a result of APAR IJ36787, a new map tool is available.  You must be on Spatial 7.6.1 and have iFix 011 installed to use this new tool.  The tool can be enabled for the Work Order Tracking application.  When this tool is enabled, multiple pins will be displayed on the map tab for a single work order if the work order has tasks with an asset/location referenced that has geometry or if assets/locations are populated in the multi asset/location table that have geometry.

An example of a use case with screenshots below is a work order to take cathodic protection readings for test points.  I have assets set up for the test points and linked with ESRI point features.  I have one work order with 3 assets in the multi asset table.  Each asset has its own linked ESRI feature.  When I open the map tab I can see the new tool in the toolbar.  I have the tool turned on and the option for viewing multiple symbols based on the multi asset location table.  I can see 3 pins on the map since there are 3 assets with geometry on the work order.

Thanks! it is exactly what our business requires during natural gas distribution network inspections. However I'm not sure it will work with our huge multiasset lists where we have hungreds and thouthands of assets in some cases. I've increased Mxe.map.queryLimit and will test work orders.

Are the any plans to add this functionality for Anywhere technician map?

Hi, let me know how your testing goes.  In the map in Maximo you will see a query task executed to locate and place a pin for each asset so it may be a bit slow with 1000 assets.  I just tested with 300 assets linked with ESRI line features and it wasn't too bad though.

We won't be adding this feature to Maximo Anywhere as Anywhere won't receive any additional development.  We just added this feature to our Map in Maximo Mobile in our 8.9 release that was available on November 22nd.

There is a new map tool than can be enabled.

When the map tool is enabled, you can then click on a work order pin.

The work order number will be displayed and you can click on that and 1 pin for each asset in the multi asset table will be displayed.  Note: in this 8.9 release we only support work order points, but in our upcoming release we will support lines and polygons too.  I am loading a demo environment with new spatial data now and I will try with 1000 records and report back to you on performance and include some screenshots.

    Hi Lacey,

Here is the version of Spatial we have in one of our test environments, wich is at Maximo 7.6.1.3, Spatial 7.6.1.1:

IBM Maximo Spatial Asset Management 7.6.1.1-20240116-1849 Build 20220818-2016 DB Build V7611-24 HFDB Build HF7611-21

I'm looking for this 'Configure Map Tools' option in the Map Manager, but I can't find it:

I verified the MAXADMIN security group and it has every single security option checked for the Map Manager application.

Can you tell me the name of this SIGOPTION, so I can verify if it is missing.

    Thank you for your help.

Let me research why the Configure Map Tools option doesn't appear in Map Manager.  I have had this happen in some of my environments as well.  I believe there is a script that didn't get run during a past upgrade. I'll reply back with an update.  We added this ability to Configure Map Tools in the Map Manager application in the past few years.

For now, you can enable map tools in Application Designer - this is where you originally had to complete this task before we also added it to Map Manager to make it easier. Open the XML for the Work Order Tracking application. Open the Map tab.  Left click on the Map control then right click and select Properties.  In the Map Properties dialog, scroll down until you see the Tool ITems.  Turn on WORelatedRecordsTool and save your application XML.  You should now see the new tool in the Map toolbar when you go to the Work Order Tracking application.

    Hi Lacey,

Yes, I have already checked that box in the application designer for the WOTRACK application.

The button for the fonctionnality appears on the map tool bar, but it does not do anything.

As you can see, both boxes are checked:

But no pins are displayed for the assets:

If I look at the assets from the Asset application's map, I see that they should have a pin where I added the red arrows.

The pin that we see is associated to the service address of the worklocation on the work order.

I'm wondering if we are missing some configuration somewhere.

    Thank's again for your help.
