  • 1.  MAS Compliance - What does it really mean?

    Posted Fri January 27, 2023 11:40 AM

Perhaps a question for the IBMers in this community.

I was asked the other day "What are the requirements for MAS Compliance and does it differ from Maximo 7.6?"

I have my own thoughts; one aspect is License Compliance but are there other aspects to consider?
How would IBM consider you not to be license compliant, are there examples?

    Thanks Andrew

Thank you for posting this question Andrew.  We have the same question and IBM is asking us to produce a report to show we are in compliance.  This may be specific to us, as a company.  However, I don't think we are the only ones that have been tasked with this request, at least I hope we are not.  How would you go about showing you are "License Compliant"?

    My additional question:
Does anyone have a sample of this report or has even heard of this compliance report?

Hi Andrew - This is a question that is often asked and in MAS it is a lot easier than it was for 7.6 as now you only have one license metric to worry about. Obviously the starting point to check if you are compliant is the license consumption report within the MAS Admin portal. This will show the App Point entitlement from the license key file that has been deployed to your production instance, it will also show what your peak usage is so at first glance you can see if you should be compliant or not.

Now there are some caveats to this in relation to Mobile users or other applications you may have that are processing Maximo data where Maximo is classed as the data owner. This has always been the case to prevent license circumvention as these users may not be authenticated using the MAS process so the customer would need to either hold back some of the App Points in their entitlement to cover these users OR create these users in MAS and allocate Authorised licenses to them to ensure they are removed from the App Point pool.

We have a report in IBM TechZone that will help with the analysis of the App Point usage as we often see questions like "why is the user displaying they need to upgrade the license from Limited to Premium" this is due to the comparison of what access Maximo Manage is granting versus what license type you have assigned them in MAS. There are 2 reports - one for Maximo 7.6 customers who are trying to evaluate the number of App Points they will need when migrating to MAS and then one for MAS customers to analyse their App Point consumption in more detail and these can be found here-->

The final document that should be reviewed is also the license terms here --> https://www.ibm.com/support/customer/csol/terms/?id=L-CLEA-CJFGEF&lc=en

Well... there are AppPoints for MAS, VPC count and restrictions for OCP, admin count for Cognos, DB2 WH data spread restrictions, AppConnect VPC limits, etc. so it's hard to agree with that statement. It's all nice and easy if we only look at Manage, but it gets much more complicated when we look at the whole stack, including OCP and CP4D. It gets even more complicated when we include standby DR environments.

I do not disagree Witold - my statement was related to Manage but this is why I mentioned the License Terms document link at the end as there are these other restrictions to consider.
