Current Limitation:

The inability to group data by week restricts the flexibility of our dashboards. While daily grouping is useful, certain analyses require weekly aggregation to align with business reporting cycles.

Currently, in Apptio BI, it is not possible to group data by week when creating widgets for dashboards. This limitation is impacting our ability to analyze trends over time effectively, particularly for reporting and visualization purposes where weekly granularity is essential.

Proposed Solution:

We propose an enhancement to Apptio BI that allows data to be grouped by week directly in dashboard widgets. This functionality should support ISO week standards and be configurable to accommodate various week definitions (e.g., starting on Sunday or Monday).

Use Case:

At Cloudability, we regularly create dashboards with widgets grouped by week to monitor trends in costs and resource usage over time. This type of grouping (weekly) is essential to track and compare spending over time for workloads that have patterns where costs are high on weekdays and low on weekends.

For context, we currently support a similar capability in Cloudability dashboards, where you can add a 'week' dimension, such as "Week (Year)." Is that what you're looking for?

While Apptio BI allows you to trend data (day, month, quarter, half-year, year) without requiring a time dimension, it does not yet support weekly trending out of the box. However, in 2025, we plan to introduce the ability to trend using Apptio BI's "View By" functionality for weeks, eliminating the need for a dedicated week dimension.
