We all know that Apptio tools can contribute to improve operational performance, identify actions to reduce IT costs, to increase cost allocations accuracy and for my study case I chose to present how manual workload can be converted in data analysis automated
In context of IT financial management view which it was mainly driven by accounting perspective and sometimes it didn't offered the granularity necessary for a full transparency towards the business lines the spent were shown via excel files, collecting information from the available sources (SAS, FIM Oracle, JIRA/EPM, Charisma) and were required manual corrections and aggregations.
In the absence of an automated tool, the efforts of both finance and budget owner cost control teams were mainly oriented towards building the data and explaining the gaps
Managing so many spreadsheets and reports it turned out being challenging for all the teams interested in . It requires a significant investment in time, resources, and infrastructure to ensure that business reports are optimized for performance, security and user experience.
Once the Apptio's adoption was put in place a transparent, single source of truth and decision tool on IT spend was providing to main stakeholders.
Therefore, a first step to eliminate the possible anomalies on a monthly basis we implemented the custom insights reports and another example of automation is the calculation of internal staff capitalization.
