Will there be a change to Watson Assistant Standard plan?

  • 1.  Will there be a change to Watson Assistant Standard plan?

I have been using Standard plan before the introduction of Plus and now Enterprise (formerly premium before March 1, 2021) plans. With the recent hike in the price of Plus plan, I am wondering if I am going to have to move to Plus plan from the existing Standard plan. (Standard plan is no longer available to the new users and you cannot create any new instance.) I would like to know this so that I can prepare my app to the new plan if a deprecation of Standard plan is near.

    Thanks.

    Mike,

There is no OFFICIAL word about deprecation of the standard plan for Watson Assistant.

Now let's talk about real-world realizations.  You are correct, you are no longer able to provision Watson Assistant "standard" instances - the only "standard" instances that are out there right now are those that have existed in the past, and that continue to exist.  That tells me that the "standard" instance is slowly being phased out.  As more capabilities are added to the Watson Assistant Plus plan, more people focus on that plan.  That means that fewer people are knowledgeable and able to provide comprehensive support for the "standard" plan instances of Watson Assistant.  So as the saying goes, "the writing is on the wall".

If I was in your place, I would begin planning for and executing on, a migration to the Watson Assistant plus plan.  I would much rather have control over WHEN I do the migration, and do it in an orderly manner, than be in a situation where I am forced to migrate and having to rush to beat a deadline (the end-of-life of the plan).  So I would start planning, and look into what the changes in cost and functionality will be, so you can make more optimal choices about when and how to migrate to the Watson Assistant Plus plan.  Does that make sense?
