FEATURED: What are other people’s thoughts on making Clearcase / Clearquest and RTC available on IBM Cloud?

I have been using a few of the IBM Rational tools ( Clearcase , Clearquest ,etc) since 1998.

Those days it was easy to get an evaluation version of Rational software from either the Rational website or from Rational local offices.

But once IBM acquired Rational in 2003 the situation is totally different. For some reason, only a registered MNC customer can get Rational evaluation software.

In this space IBM Rational is losing out to  AccuRev mainly ( it’s pretty simple to get AccuRev eval software with a 2 weeks eval license).

But this is not the case of  IBM-Rational softwares. I believe this is the main reason many companies are migrating to AccuRev  or to  OpenSource git /  svn.

Clearcase  /  Clearquest  and RTC can be made available on IBM Cloud, if already not available, at least for evaluation purpose. Clearcase is far superior in config-spec , branching / merging  comparing to open source tools like git/svn.

What are other people’s thoughts on making Clearcase  /  Clearquest  and RTC available on IBM Cloud?

I don't think it is lack of trial licences that caused the decline of CC.
CC costs - git does not.
Performance is an issue with CC - always has been. And now that VOBs are stored in data centres many miles from developers then it can be slow.
Finally, IBM really messed up the introduction of RTC. When RTC 1.0 came out in 2008/9, there was a clear marketing message. Cheap + cheerful, little customisation then go RTC. If you want customisation then go CC/CQ and pay more.
By RTC 2 that message was lost. IBM made RTC more complex, charged more and completely ignored CC resulting in the sale of the product in 2016.
I am really not sure that anything is gained putting CC in the cloud.

RTC and the rest of the CLM/CE tools are available on the cloud now for evaluation.  Go to https://jazz.net/products/sandbox/ to try it out.  As far as evaluation copies, you can download any of the CLM tools from jazz.net and try them out for free.  RTC itself is available for free for up to 10 developers, perfect for small projects/teams that want to try out the functionality.  You can find all this information at jazz.net.
