Troubleshoot file uploading data to the incorrect time period

Thu March 22, 2018 05:02 PM

♦ Applies to: DataLink 4 on TBM Studio 12

Symptom: File uploading to the incorrect time period

You are attempting to load a file into TBM Studio using DataLink. When the connector have runs, you discover the data is posted in the wrong month or fiscal year.

What's going on

This issue may be caused by:

  • Uploading a file of the same name as an existing table, which overwrites data instead of making a new copy.
  • Incorrect data entry or a misalignment with your organization's fiscal calendar, such as date pattern setup ({MM}_{FYYY}.csv) or using a business calendar other than Gregorian.
  • A misalignment in time or date between the DataLink connector and your Apptio environment. This includes time zone, time format, and calendar date.

Resolution

  1. Ensure that the name of your new file is unique from existing files or tables.
    • A consistent naming scheme for new incoming file and connector names will prevent data conflicts.
  2. Navigate to the Apptio Destination section of the connector and Use filename month and year to specify upload period in DataLink
    • Changing Time Period to Current Month should set the uploads to the current month
    • If you're using a file pattern convention, select Use File Name Month and Year instead.
  3. Ensure that your data source, DataLink schedule, and Apptio environment have matching calendar and time zone settings. For full details on Apptio time settings, see Configure project time settings in the DataLink Connector Guides.
  4. Save the changes and re-run the connector.

NOTE: Some calendars use periods instead of months, so {PPP} should be specified in those cases. For more information, see the DataLink Connector Guide for your connection type.
