Solution

The uploaded file type for a given table is suddenly changed (ex. .csv to .xlsx)
  1. Version the table on the month where the filetype first changed. For more information, see Version a table. This will create a new version that may resolve your new filetype change without reverting your original filetype uploads.
  2. If that does not fix the issue, work backwards from your current time period, and delete table data month by month until you have removed all data of the new filetype. Then either upload the data in a matching format to your existing data, or use the Version function from Step 1 before re-uploading.
Multiple file types are being loaded into one table
  1. You must delete all uploaded data, then re-upload your data using only one file type.
  2. If that does not resolve the problem, delete the entire table. Then re-create the table, and re-upload the data.
Specified the wrong tab in an Excel document for uploadCheck the Import step to ensure the right tab was selected, and that the tab name matches the original document.
Corrupt DataLink uploadRe-run the connector. For more information, see Troubleshoot DataLink connector errors.
Special characters are included in the dataEnsure that the data is in a valid format for its filetype, and that it does not contain any special characters that are unsupported in the filetype. Examples: improperly placed delimiters in file content, or missing specifying text (quotations).

Just today we had this issue. Thanks to @Alex Edwards, our great CSM, for pointing us out to this page.

We fixed it by copying the contents of the original file to a brand new one.

We believe they related it to the document classification (Confidential in Excel), i.e. related to permissions.

FYI - I've also seen this issue apply to a corrupted Excel file. Copy and pasted the data into a new Excel file and loaded into Apptio without issue.
