Tech Bytes IWHI: Creating and Managing Connectors for Deploy Anywhere Flow Services in IBM webMethods Integration

Introduction

This article elaborates the essential steps to configure and manage connectors for a Deploy Anywhere Flow Service within IBM webMethods Integration. By following these steps, you can design a connector during the Designtime phase and subsequently deploy it to one or multiple Edge Runtime environments, thereby simplifying their integration processes and boosting operational efficiency.

Audience

It is assumed that readers of this article know about webMethods Integration.

Pre-requisite

  • webMethods Integration tenant with DADA capabilities enabled.

Step 1: Create a Deploy Anywhere Flow Service

  • Open or create a project.
  • Navigate to the Integrations tab, choose Flow Services, and hit the ‘+’ icon.
  • Pick ‘Deploy Anywhere Flow Service’ and click the Create button.

  • Enter a name and description that makes sense for your flow service.

Step 2: Add a Connector to the Flow

  • Click on the flow step and pick CONNECTORS from the drop-down.
  • You’ll see a list of supported connectors.

Note: If you see a download icon when hovering over a connector, it means you need to download it first. Simply click the icon—this is a one-time action for each connector used. These are Cloud Stream connectors, which are seamlessly downloaded from the webMethods package registry.

  • Choose a connector, like the Salesforce SOAP Connector.
  • From the Choose Action drop-down, pick a Custom Action (only custom actions are supported here).
  • Select the account and hit Save.

Note: These connections are created in Cloud Design Time and are disabled by default. In case you want to test the flow service in design time then connection must manually be enabled from the runtime.

Step 3: Sync Connector to Edge Runtime

  • Go to Projects > Connectors > Deploy Anywhere.
  • Click Manage Runtimes for the connector you want to enable.

  • Click the '+ Runtime' button.

  • Pick the runtimes where you want this connector to run and click ‘Add’. A screenshot of a computer

  • Click Edit to update connection properties.

Note: You’ll need to re-enter sensitive info like passwords. They’re not stored.

  • Check or update the config at the runtime level and click Save.

Step 4: Sync Flow Service with Runtime

  • Go back to your flow service.
  • From the Runtime drop-down, pick the runtime.
  • Click the Sync icon to push the flow service and connector to that runtime.

Note: If you skip re-entering the sensitive information in the Deploy Anywhere and directly sync the flow service, you need to go to the edge runtime, edit the connection and enable the connection.
