TIPS

Collaboration and Comments feature

New features

  • The New Feature Awareness Pop-up
The pop-up informs users of the key features available using comments. The New Feature Awareness pop-up appears after logging in to an Apptio Flagship product, such as Cost Transparency, after there has been a product upgrade, if the upgrade introduces new features to the section. The pop-up appears near the Comments icon, and informs what the key features of the Comments upgrade are.

  • Private Commentary

The private commentary feature allows users to have discussions that are better suited to a closed group. Anyone included in the group can send private comments within a group of users, or send public comments visible to all users who have access to the report.

To start a private conversation, add other users or roles as members to the comment thread. In this release, you can add up to 50 members to a group. Any member of the group can click the Private Commentary icon in the comment thread header to see the complete list of members at any point in the conversation. A private conversation cannot be made public and a public conversation cannot be made private. Group members cannot modify the list of members after starting a private conversation.

This feature can also be used to take your own notes. To create a note, start a private conversation and enter the comment without adding any members.

The following diagrams show how to make a note to yourself, a private comment, and a public comment.

  • Comment Formatting Options
You can format your comments with paragraphs and simple text formatting, including bold, italics, bullet lists and numbered lists

  • The Informational/Warning Message

Adding disclaimer and/or warning messages allows administrators to set the rules for commentary within their organization. For instance, customers can add a warning message in the Comments pane to discourage users from using the comments feature to settle billing disputes.

Administrators can use the Configuration tab in the Comments side pane where they can set the disclaimer messages. Any user with an admin role can set or remove the message.

The message is then displayed to all the users.

Apptio TBM Studio

Adding the support for picklists, combo boxes, bulk changes and ribbon options to editable tables.

Short description:
Many existing R11 customers do not want to upgrade to R12 since they have use cases where users enter information directly on the reporting surface. With the R12.9.2 enhancements, many of the important feature gaps have been closed. Specifically, general users can update editable tables by selecting values from drop downs based on other tables or editable tables. Additionally, general users can now download, modify and upload editable tables without accessing TBM Studio.

API

In release 12.9 and above the following header values must be included on any API calls to the platform API. This would be API calls either uploading to or downloading from Cost Transparency or other platform projects.
app-type="Flagship"
app-version="NA"

These are in addition to existing API headers you may already be using.

New features

  • Enhancements to Editable Tables. Support for the following have been added to the Editable Tables feature:
Apptio Users (not TBMAs) want the ability to enter information directly into Apptio
Update information in an editable table that uses another standard table as a lookup, allow other entries
Upload, edit and export editable tables at the reporting layer

    • Picklists
    • Combo boxes
    • Bulk changes
    • Ribbon options

Fixed in this release

  • The bulk change of column types to Label for uploaded tables with numeric-looking columns is now enabled. (BIIT-91071)
  • In the Filter step in Data Studio, the export of items listed in the “Rows Removed” tab is now enabled. (BIIT-87874)
  • Optimized the performance of drills in specific situations. (BIIT-86065)
  • Fixed an issue where modifying a component (such as when adding, moving, or changing something) resets the time settings in Properties > Data Time Period. This affected performance-intensive reports where the user had to remember to re-enter the desired value.  (ODS-4652)
  • Hid Rate Type in the currency selector which is rarely used, causes confusion and is inconsistent with other Apptio products.  (ODS-1484)

Cost Transparency (Template v109)

New features

  • You can point the mouse at the column heading on a report table. The column's source (either a formula, or the table and column it came from) will appear in a screen tip. [ODS-3580]

Self-Service Reporting (Template v109)

New features

  • Pivot tables. The new pivot functionality will enable users to transform a flat table and update rows of values into columns to group data in a more meaningful way for better analysis. To create a pivot table, select the dimensions and metrics you would like to use in the visualization editor.

Calculated Metrics (formula columns). Add formula columns in a quick and simple way using Calculated Metrics. Create a quick single metric comparison between time periods, compare two metrics and/or calculate a unit cost rate by simple selecting the Calculated Metric button in edit mode. There is no requirement to know or learn syntax, simply select the metrics and parameters that you care about and add a new column to your table.
