R12.9 Release Note Highlights

This document is a summary of major feature upgrades in each main TBM Studio 12.9 release.


As of April 2022, TBM Studio is now on Release 12.10.

12.9.14 & Client 1.9

COMPOUND FILTERING MORE APPTIO BI IMPROVEMENTS APEX UI UPDATES
Apptio BI reports may now use compound filtering with projections from Costing, Billing, and Insights
  • Compound filtering enables the use of AND and OR logic.
  • Compound filtering is disabled by default. Submit a Support ticket to enable this feature in your environments.
  • Users can now create custom Calculated Metrics in a formulaic method using dimensions, metrics, and operators.
  • Admins: access to Costing, Billing, and Insights now only requires the AccessProd permission.
Apex UI updates for TBM Studio, Costing, and Billing, along with many interface and feature bugfixes.

12.9.13 & Client 1.8

CLOUDABILITY SHIFT INTEGRATION PRESCRIPTIVE COST MODEL IMPROVED CLIENT FEATURES
New Cloudability Shift Integration component installs the Infrastructure Tower Extract report.
  • Automates the transfer of infrastructure costs from an existing Costing project.
  • Report provides computer, storage, network, and data center costs (broken out by Tower and Vendor).
  • Report intended for automated system API call and should not be modified.
New project type Prescriptive Cost Model pre-installs the following Costing components to streamline project configuration for new and existing customers:
  • CT-Quality
  • CTF-Capex
  • CTF-Cost Source
  • CTF-Fixed Assets
  • CTF-IT Tower Foundation
  • CTF-IT Towers
  • CTF-Labor
  • CTF-Labor Units
  • CTF-Prescriptive Model
  • CTF-Projects
  • CTF-Vendor
  • Configuration Insights is now Configuration Recommendations and is available for all users.
  • New Admin options for Editable Tables: establish Role-based publish permissions or delete uploaded tables.
  • Admins can assign additional Roles to access Enable Features options.
  • New Table Upload features: right-click and download tables immediately after upload, clearer dialog messages, and updated localization.

12.9.12 & Client 1.7

IGNORE WEIGHTING FEATURE CONFIGURATION INSIGHTS MORE CLIENT FEATURES
Introducing a new model allocation option to ignore allocations of miniscule or negligible amounts.
  • Found in Distributing > Weight By
  • Improves model performance by eliminating negligible allocations when the largest weighting is greater than 1 million times the smaller weightings
  • The default threshold of 1 million can be modified
  • Admins must activate the feature by selecting the Ignore Insignificant Weights checkbox
Provides TBMAs with visibility into configuration and performance issues, to proactively prevent system lockups or reactively identify areas of improvement.
  • New feature built upon the Error Framework and Limiter services features from prior 12.9 Releases!
  • Future enhancements include additional guardrail rules, comprehensive error explanations, and improved recommendations
Client 1.7 features are available for Release versions 12.9.11 and 12.9.12
  • Late Upload Notifications: TBMAs can assign any data owner to be notified of late data refreshes, in addition to configuring new “data freshness” rules
  • Recurring Updates for Editable Tables: Enable to configure multiple table updates within the same day, without manual upload
  • Enable Editable Table Publish: Authorized users may now publish and check-in changes immediately
  • Check-In History: Improved readability of audit logs and whitespace support for the Description field

12.9.11 & Client 1.6

SERVICENOW INTEGRATION DEMAND PLANNING ENHANCED SERVER FEATURES
The ServiceNow Integration component is now available in ApptioOne Plus, allowing customers with ServiceNow's ITSM software to share data between ServiceNow and Apptio.
  • This new component installs a pre-defined set of Application and Service TCO reports broken out by Cost Pool and Towers
  • The Datalink egress connector uses an API based on these reports to send application and service TCO information to ServiceNow, where it can be displayed in the Service Owner and App Owner dashboards
  • The ApptioOne Demand Planning Integration component is now available to all ApptioOne Plus customers
  • A new Service Forecast Variance summary report displays actual and forecasted quantity, unit costs, and variances in a single table
  • Rebuilt the Waterfall Chart feature to use Editable Tables for variance information
  • Editable Tables: Changes can be made to the Current Period or Previous Period of a transform table using Recurring Updates
  • Added ability to format numeric columns in Editable Tables
  • Calculation Queue Notification / Async Download API: When a build calculation completes, a notification indicates the calculated data is ready for distribution to other applications

12.9.10 & Client 1.5

QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS
  • Users can now enable or disable Comments when viewing reports
  • Users can now view the Formula Column Description without checking out a document
  • Numeric Ascending order for the Age category from Under 1 yr to 1 yr or less is now available in Fixed Assets report
  • Tab indexing to the Hide and Rename Column dialog
  • Enable Table Uploads feature through Optional Features

12.9.9

ARCHETECTURE INTEGRATIONS UPLIFT AND DOWNGRADE PRESCRIPTIVE COST MODELING
New reports and components:
  • A new set of Demand Forecast Analysis reports that compare planned & forecasted quantity against actual consumption, or planned & forecasted price against actual unit costs
  • Apptio LeanIX Integration: A new component that installs a pre-defined Application TCO report and enables the LeanIX API to pull data from Apptio
  • All use-cases in Apptio Value Explorer have been updated to align with the ApptioOne product suite. A comparison of old and new use-cases is available
  • Components for legacy applications Hybrid Business Management and Agile Insights will no longer be available
A beta feature designed for a prescriptive, data-driven approach to accelerate cost model configuration (Cost Source to Towers)
  • The Prescriptive Model component installs datasets, modeled objects, and report focused on model allocation quality scoring

12.9.8 & Client 1.4

QUALITY OF LIFE IMPROVEMENTS LIMITER FEATURE APPTIO ADMIN SETTINGS
  • Tables with pivoted columns can now be ordered (ascending, descending, customer)
  • Life Cycle features moved under the Build tab
  • More precise error messages with new Apex UI appearance
  • Project Name now appears in browser tab header
New Limiter feature that identifies configuration issues to improve
system performance.

  • Default thresholds based on Apptio Customer Engineering recommendations
  • Apptio Admins can change thresholds within specific customer instances
  • Control Current Active Users: Admin users can now enable or disable the display of active users, to be compliant with data protection and privacy regulations in select countries
  • Enable Beta Features: New toggle added to settings for Apptio Admin & Partner Admin roles

CUSTOM DATA IN SELF-SERVICE REPORTING
Custom data support added to the Data Source Configuration feature of Self-Service Reporting (SSR)

PRODUCT CHANGES & PROJECT UPLIFTS ROLE-BASED ANALYTICS
New, modern UI design for all Apptio Products. Designed for ease-of-use and simpler navigation!
  • Simplified Cloud reports – granular cost analytics now handled by Cloudability
  • Reference Project configurable across Apptio products
  • New Planability Demand Integration component
Admins can now analyze and filter Apptio usage metrics per Role in all existing Usage reports.

12.9.5 & Client 1.2

EXPORT CHECK-IN HISTORY NEW ADMIN FEATURES PERFORMANCE SPEEDTEST
Admins can export Check-In History as a spreadsheet for further analysis, auditing, or documentation
  • Display Perspective Information displays formulas and properties of a given perspective
  • Table Lineage displays all tables directly related to the currently selected table
New Speedtest feature now available in the Settings menu
  • Used to capture end-user metrics when reporting UI Performance concerns.

CALCULATION QUEUE CONTROL UPDATE: ERROR FRAMEWORK BILL OF IT INVOICES
Admins can enable/disable Calculation Queue in Staging environments

New Errors document highlights all errors across your product space

General improvements to Bill of IT Invoice list emails

CLOUD MAPPING UPDATE ADMINISTRATOR ENHANCEMENTS JAPANESE LOCALIZATION
Apptio cloud mapping updated for:
  • Amazon Web Services
  • Azure
  • Google
Enhanced Admin features for Performance Features and Data Quality Reporting including:
  • Analyze user Workspace or Branch
  • Enable customer Focus Drills
  • Add Plan Type to Data Dimensions
Japanese localization now available for the following products:
  • Apptio Value Explorer
  • Data Advisor

COMMENTS & COLLABORATION EDITABLE TABLES SELF-SERVICE REPORTING
  • Private Comments
  • Text Formatting options
  • Comment options to indicate Information or Warning
TBM Studio reports can be directly modified: enter and update information on the reporting layer. By popular demand, this functionality from R11 is now available in R12!
  • New Pivot table functionality
  • Add Formula Columns for to quickly use Calculated Metrics

COMMENTS & COLLABORATION IMPROVED LOOKUP & DATA SOURCES PRODUCT ENHANCEMENTS
  • Hyperlink functionality
  • All features now available in Staging environments
  • Daily Digest email options, summarizing comment activity
For TBM Studio and Cost Transparency:
  • TBMAs may now bring in columns from editable tables via Lookup()
  • Hover over any report table column to view its source dataset or formula (Cost Transparency)
  • 508 Compliance Certification
  • Multi-Currency support (Self-Service Reporting)
  • Inherit Row-Level Security from TBM Studio (Self-Service Reporting)
  • All Service Library items can be shown in Invoices (Bill of IT)

NEW FEATURES APPLICATION TEMPLATE UPDATE SLICER IMPROVEMENTS
Report changes in Cost Transparency:
  • IT Tower Resources Report divided into 2 collections & 4 reports
  • Project Reports Collection divided into 3 Views
  • Infrastructure Insights report now appears in Report Collection menu
  • Slicer search now returns any items that contain the query text, including partial matches
  • New Product Solutions Hierarchy replaces TBM Category Slicer (Apptio Value Explorer)
