Proof of Value and Technical Discovery for Migration of IBM CloudFoundry Applications to IBM Code Engine

Wed April 05, 2023 05:52 AM

Many of our customers have applications that currently run in the IBM Cloud - Cloud Foundry environment.  IBM have reported that all IBM Cloud Foundry environments will be end of life’d on 1st June '23, requiring those applications to be migrated to an alternative environment. The recommendation from IBM is to target Code Engine as an alternative application runtime option.

IBM Client Engineering have provided a Technical Discovery Workshop to identify the options, processes, and recommended timings/timescales for the CF to CE migration options.

The purpose of this is to de-risk the effort required for the process of migrating.  This should allow costs to be minimised due to lower risk and complexity.

This document describes the most appropriate options to migrate, describing existing tools as well as identifying more traditional and well-known container-based approaches. Although focused on IBM Cloud Foundry, the process for application migration migrating equally applies to other Cloud Foundry based environments, such as SAP BTP Cloud Foundry Runtime.
