Optimize the number of objects monitored in your F5 Load Balancers

Thu March 14, 2024 12:33 PM

Purpose of the Workflow:  Stop monitoring those virtual server objects monitored in SevOne that are disabled

Description: one of the main problems when we monitor F5 load balancers is the amount of objects that are discovered on this type of devices, and this can have serious implications on the performance of the F5 device (it can stop responding) and also the impact on the monitoring system (more objects -> more load -> more infrastructure required -> more cost).

The following workflow helps us reduce the number of objects monitored on the F5 device by disabling in SevOne those virtual servers that are disabled in the F5 device.

List of requirements:

  • Rapid Network Automation Version: 1.1 or newer
  • SevOne Version: 6.6.0 or newer
  • Environment Required:
    • NMS Credentials
    • F5 API Credentials

Setup:

  • Import workflow
  • Configure SevOne and F5 API credentials
  • Create RNA API gateway to listen for the NMS alerts
  • Create SevOne alert policy that triggers RNA API gateway

Expected Results:

There shouldn't be any disabled virtual server monitored in SevOne
