IBM Cloud Private (ICp) 3.1 Rapid Deployment

This guide describes the installation of IBM Cloud Private (ICp) 3.1 for a very quick lab setup. VM's are created in VMware environment with Ubuntu OS for the setup.

ICP cluster has 4 main classes of nodes: boot, master, worker, and proxy.

  • Boot node: is used for running installation, configuration, node scaling and cluster updates
  • Master node: provides management services and controls the worker nodes in a cluster
  • Worker node: provides a containerized environment for running tasks
  • Proxy node: trnsmits external request to the services created inside cluster
  • Management node: hosts management services like monitoring, metering, and logging
Single ICp Master VM is having Boot, Master, Proxy and Management Nodes.

This document is intended to be a end-to-end walk-through of all the steps required to install and configure IBM Cloud Private 3.1 for a Lab. Also documents common issues during installations. This document is to show ICp deployment is very easy with very simple steps for Lab setup.
