What's New in Cloudability Financial Planning

v1.3 - June 24, 2024

Summary

This release contains the following enhancements:

  • Enhanced Forecast data entry page
  • Drill support to the Summary page analytics
  • New Comment field
  • Automatic refresh of actuals and estimate data (aka "Refresh Report") when you open a plan

Forecast Page Enhancements

The Forecast page has been updated to provide a more streamlined and simplified experience.  Previously, the Forecast page was divided into two sub-pages: Baseline and Adjustment.  Each had its own line item table.  Baseline line items could not be edited directly and had to be updated via the Update Baseline function.   With this new experience, Baseline and Adjustment line items have been merged into a single table and Baseline line items are editable just like Adjustments.  Additionally, we've added the ability to edit line items directly in the table.  This offers the following benefits:

  • Improved Visibility: All forecast line-items, both baseline and adjustment, are now visible to the cost owner when entering or editing adjustments. Cost owners no longer need remember which line-item they wish to adjust.
  • Editable Baselines: System-generated baseline line items can now be edited just like adjustments.  They now have all the same dimensions  allowing for annotation.
  • Simplified Editing Experience: Interact with forecast line items summarized by cost ownership (similar to Budget table) or in full detail grouped and organized any way you like.  Entering or editing a line item uses a familiar Excel-like editing experience.

Summary Mode

Summary mode uses a "master-detail" model where forecast line items are grouped and summarized by the Cost Ownership dimension similar to the Budget line item table.  Clicking on a cost ownership "bucket" opens an editable table showing all forecast line items for that bucket, allowing you to add, delete, and edit line-items inline.

Detail Mode

Detail model shows all forecast line items initially ungrouped or organized, but the user is free to layout and organize the table in any manner they wish (similar to the Forecast Details table on the Dashboard page).   However, here the individual leaf line items are editable.  Clicking on their pencil will bring up the same editable detail table used in Summary mode allowing the user to make edits to the specific line item.

Note that the line item table editor can be resized to show more lines (via the vertical "gripper" icon).   And the full table can also be expanded to full page, giving the user more workable table real estate when editing.

Drill Support on Summary Page

You can now drill to line item detail on the Forecast Summary dashboard charts.  Clicking on a chart element will bring up a line item detail table filtered to the specific chart segment.  The line item detail table can be grouped, sorted and filtered to perform additional analysis.

Line items details can be further groups/summarized, sorted and filtered

New Comment Field

All Plans now support a text Comment field out of the box.   You no longer need to create and add your own dimension to Plans for capturing commentary on forecast lines.   All new plans will automatically be created with a text Comment field.  Existing plans will have a Comment field added to them.  If a plan already has a Comment dimension, the existing dimension will be preserved (and renamed to Comment2) and the plan will have both Comment fields.

Auto-Refresh on Plan Open

Opening a plan will now automatically perform a "Refresh Report" action if the plan data is stale (more than 24 hours old).  Refresh Report updates actuals and estimate values for the plan using latest Cloudability data.  The Refresh Report button on the Dashboard pages can still be used to manually initiate this refresh action at any time.

Other changes

Note that the Forecast Details table has been moved to its own tab on the Dashboard page.  Previously, this table was located on the Forecast Summary tab underneath the Cloud Spend Trend and Cloud Spend Breakdown charts.
