2887 - Modernizing EAM: Con Edison's Journey to the Maximo Application Suite

In this presentation, we will explore the dynamic journey of our EAM to MAS upgrade and technology modernization journey, which began with a vision to innovate and transform our approach to EAM to MAS. We will delve into the initial challenges encountered and the strategic decisions made that guided the project from EAM to MAS upgrade successfully and MAS-GenAI use cases. The EAM to MAS driving factors that led us to embark on this initiative in 2022-23, including addressing maintenance and operation needs of all assets with technological advancements with Maximo 7.6.1.2 (EAM) to MAS (8.11). The upgrade involves a significant technology enhancement with the adoption of OpenShift and containerization, paving the way for modernized operations.

Compelling Outcomes of the MAS Upgrade:
- We established a robust suite of MAS environments: Development, Test, User Acceptance Testing (UAT), Disaster Recovery, and Production, all optimized for high performance.
- Experience a revitalized look and feel of the Maximo applications, designed to improve user experience and engagement.
- Our Maximo user group undergone targeted training to fully grasp the changes, empowering them to leverage MAS 8 effectively.
Unmatched Business Value from the MAS Upgrade:
- We derived significant process improvements by decommissioning several custom applications, streamlining our operations for maximal efficiency.
- Our upgrade not only harnessed the latest technologies but also enhance our cybersecurity posture, safeguarding our operations.
- We are actively promoting MAS Mobile adoption among external users, expanding our reach and capabilities.
Con Edison’s Vision - MAS Future:
- We transitioned several legacy work management and asset management systems to MAS and few more to go, solidifying our position as a forward-thinking leader in the industry.
- By exploring innovative GenAI-MAS use cases—such as work order intelligence, problem code/failure mode context understanding, Maximo visual inspection, and Maximo Assist—we are poised to redefine asset management for the future at ConEd with GenAI-MAS.
