    Summary

IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management 7.0.3 provides systems engineers, software developers, and development teams with improvements in usability, security, performance, and functionality to help them define and deliver high-quality complex systems and software on time.

Enhancements in this version build upon IBM's success in helping practitioners and administrators address their ever-increasing needs for more productive, collaborative engineering while developing complex systems and software.

    • Digital Thread: Define and manage dependencies and relationships among engineering data from all your teams and their tools.
    • Configuration and Change Management: Improve the process of defining, reviewing, and changing artifacts in the context of the larger product under design or development.
    • Reporting: Automate gathering and using program-wide status information and program deliverables.
    • Agile Engineering: Plan and manage work to reduce time to market, minimize bottlenecks, and accelerate the flow of work across the value stream for continuous value delivery.
    • User Productivity: Work faster with less overhead and fewer opportunities for error
    • Operating at Scale: Harden deployments, increase data and user scale, and keep current with the specified operating environment and integrations.

The following four questions we didn't have time to answer during the event. So I'm answering them here.

Q1: You mentioned support for Edge. Is there any change in support for Chrome or Firefox?
A1: We continue to support recent versions of Chrome or Firefox--no change in policy. You can find this and other software product compatibilty information by creating a report for Engineering Lifecycle Management 7.0.3: https://www.ibm.com/software/reports/compatibility/clarity/

Q2: On average, how long should it take to upgrade from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3 (4 hours? 1 day?). Let's say we have more than one server to upgrade.
A2: Your time to plan your upgrade and do a test upgrade on a copy of your production data will take longer than the actual upgrade. It's hard to give a specific time period, since amount of data in your ELM product repositories can make a significant difference. Your test upgrade will give you a sense of the time required for your production upgrade. See the interactive upgrade guide in the documentation to start your planning: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/engineering-lifecycle-management-suite/lifecycle-management/7.0.3

Q3: Are there any future changes to let MBSE tools like Cameo Systems Modeler interact with an EWM or DOORS Next environment natively?
A3: The ELM tools implement OSLC as an open interface for integrations. You would need to check with the vendor of each tool regarding their plans to support (or expand support) for OSLC integration scenarios. You could also look at vendors that offer integration adapters or integration servers.

Q4: Are team areas in DOORS Next available in LQE-based JRS reports?
A4: I'm not sure whether you are asking "Can I limit what people see by team area?" or "Can I report on the names of the people who have access to the team area?" Or "Can I add a report condition to limit the results to requirements that are associated with a team area?" We did not make any changes in this area in the 7.0.3 release. I suggest asking your specific question via a support case.

Hi, You mentioned in the presentation that the RS using SQL was available in RS 7.0.2Ifix25 and DNG using using a new log based TRS reporting vs event based currently. What do we need to do to commence that as a trial as we have a project that is constantly struggling (even in 702) to get reliably accurate data out of RS for DNG and we are curious to investigate if the new logging mechanism will improve the reliability of the RS for us. Thanks

Hi Peter. I suggest opening a support case requesting instructions for testing the new log-based TRS available in DN 7.0.2 ifix025+. This can be done independently from implementing the new LQE relational store (LQE rs), which is available in ELM 7.0.3 only.

    Hi Peter,

New DOORS Next log-based TRS and LQE relational store (LQE rs) are two separate capabilities. Both of them are part of ELM 7.0.3 but only DOORS Next log-based TRS is available as part of 7.0.2 ifix025 or later. Hence, you could take advantage of the new DOORS Next log-based TRS. Keep in mind that switching from "event-based" to "log-based" is done through an advanced server property and requires a TRS rebase in DOORS Next and then LQE re-index.

For LQE rs 7.0.3, there is a testing/graduation process to allow you to use LQE rs in your ELM 7.0.3 production env. This process starts with opening an IBM Support ticket to guide you on the testing process. Also, along the way, IBM Support would collect some testing data to ensure smooth deployment and your production usage.

    Best regards,
