    Hello,
At which step do you have errors? (When printing, when reading?)
What should be the reading format?
What is the type of tape, what is the reader (IBM library?).
There are several formats accepted by various readers.
For printing quality, you can also refer to this excellent document: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/system/files/support/ssg/ssgdocs.nsf/0/c90cc23311a1bfb985256b840063e5cd/$FILE/19P0034,M10321,R00,001,WORDPRO,PDF.pdf

    Many thanks for your reply:

I'll try and provide as accurate answers as I can.

    This request is rather unorthodox!

    Hello,
At which step do you have errors? (When printing, when reading?)  Reading.  The problem is that I don't have a tape drive available to read the computer tapes,  That is JOB ONE!!!

What should be the reading format? The content is probably simply a large multi-line table containing headers describing (naming) each column.  Could be ASCI...but not sure!

What is the type of tape, what is the reader (IBM library?).   The tape was described in the previous email.  It is a long tape, width of the tape is 1/2 (0.5) inches/

There are several formats accepted by various readers.
For printing quality, you can also refer to this excellent document: www.ibm.com/support/pages/system/files/support/ssg/...

I am, at this time, simply requesting for the data tape to be read and converted to a data table which can be sent to me electronically,

I believe that a simple table in ascii might do the job, however, ideally, it is in a readable format such as a Microsoft table or a table readable by a simple word processor....an Excel table would be quite serviceable.

    Think that can be accomplished?

    Kind regards

    Clar

    Hi Bethel.

Ordering instructions are pretty clear in the tape cartridge sales manuals, the following feature codes are related to labeling tape cartridges

    • Other
      • (#9910) - Base 10 Count Lbl Sequence
      • (#9936) - Base 36 Count Lbl Sequence
    • Specify Codes
      • (#9003) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - RED
      • (#9004) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - YELLOW
      • (#9005) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - LT GREEN
      • (#9006) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - LT BLUE
      • (#9007) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - GRAY
      • (#9008) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - ORANGE
      • (#9009) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - PINK
      • (#9010) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - GREEN
      • (#9011) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - LT ORANGE
      • (#9012) - ALPHA PREFIX BKGRD - PURPLE
      • (#9022) - LABEL BKGRD: COLOR/VIBRANT
      • (#9077) - LABEL BKGRD: WHITE (NO COLOR)
      • (#9097) - Label Background: UniColor

Go to each feature code description and will provide guidance on how to use them, but basically, if you add the Color/Vibrant feature (#9022), then any of ten background colors are available (#9003 to #9012), the same background color will be on all the alpha characters.

If you add feature #9077, the background color will be determined as white in color of all the alpha characters on the VOLSER label.

If you add #9097, "UniColor. the background color in one of the colors available of all six characters on the VOLSER label. One of the ten background colors (#9003 to #9012) for all six characters must be selected.

Features #9022, #9077 and #9097 are mutually exclusive.

Features #9910 and #9936 are needed for specifying the label sequence base, #9910 for 1 to 10, and 39936 for 1 to 10 plus 26 characters in the alphabet.

It's a READ  issue.  I cannot find the correct equipment to simply read the data and transfer into a readable table (a spreadsheet, perhaps_which I can use to conduct statistical analysis (MS Excel, perhaps).

Have you a reader available which can read these 1/2" wide data tapes, please?  The tapes are 10.5" and 8.5" inches in diameter.

Thanks in anticipation of your reply.

    Kind regards
