  • 1.  Is the ltfscp utility still available? If not, what's the current tool for copying files from LTFS in tape order?

I'd like the ability to copy files from LTFS in tape order. Previously, IBM made available the tool ltfscp for this purpose. That tool was part of the LTFS tools download that was available alongside previous versions (up through version 2.2) of Spectrum Archive SDE. The latest version of Spectrum Archive SDE (2.4) no longer has an option to download the LTFS tools. Further, in my testing, ltfscp from Spectrum Archive SDE 2.2 does not work with the latest version of Spectrum Archive SDE.

Is there a way to make it so that the old ltfscp tool works in conjunction with the latest Spectrum Archive SDE release? If not, is there an alternative tool to perform tape order file copies in conjunction with the latest Spectrum Archive SDE release?

    Thanks!

You may want to check ltfs_ordered_copy command, which copies the files  in the order of physical location on source tape.

Thanks! I saw that tool on the LTFS repo on Github, but I didn't realize it was being distributed with Spectrum Archive SDE. I'm on Windows currently, where the tool doesn't appear to be available, but I will work from Linux as necessary. This tool should work fine.

Try checking the 2.4.4 version.  It supported Windows 11 and 2016.

    Just a minor correction.
    - The latest version is "2.4.5"
    - SDE runs on Windows "10" and Windows Server 2016.

It should be also noted that IBM is planning to discontinue the support of Windows at the end of April, 2023.  So, it is best to consider to use the new copy tool on Linux.
