    Hi Team,

    Good day! Just wanted to check, is it safe to replace the cache battery of one node canister while there are 3 failed disks on its expansion? Needed some insights please. I haven't work for an IBM Storage for a while, so I really need a refresher. Thank you and appreciate your help.

    check the ibm docs for replacement procedure;

    Hi Nezih,

    Thank you for your response. I have checked that document as well but that doesn't give me the answer to my main question if it is safe to replace a battery with multiple disks failure. Thank you, anyway! Have a good day!

    Hi Randy,

    3 disk failure is a very tricky, it's risky due to your raid configuration. battery failure causes the cache to become disable in the controller level. When write cache is disabled all writes from the hosts goes directly to the disks and this creates extra load on the discs. If I was in the same situation, I would shut down the entire host side and replace the battery. But is it risky, yes 3 disk failures is always risky.

    Hi Nezih,

    Yes, that's why I am hesitant to continue with the replacement activity. But, considering that there's another healthy node canister battery, I still consider doing it so. I guess I will replace at least one disk then proceed with the battery replacement? What do you think?

    Why don't you replace all the failed discs and keep going without worrying? (replace disks one by one and wait for the raid rebuild procedure completed)

    Hi Nezih, thought of it but I only have 1 available disk at the moment and I got the battery too. So I thought of going maybe replace that 1 drive first and the battery rather wait for all the disks to be available.
